Mellow Yellow Monday - Bright Sentinel On Guard - January 3, 2011

I think this yellow fire hydrant really stands out against the green foliage at this
Millbrae, CA corner.

I am participating in Mellow Yellow Monday - check out the site and join in the fun.

  2. I feel sad when I see immovable objects that resemble a human being. Weird feelings of being a prisoner of fate waiting for fate to make the next move.

  6. Oh, I think it's cute. I don't think it was made to look human on purpose, but it does look like a sentinel on guard.

  8. Even the most mundane things can cheer one up -- especially on a dreary day.

  9. This reminded me of the fire hydrants at my college. Each one was painted a different theme or character. There was Disney, Family Guy...sports teams like the NE Patriots and the Boston Red Sox... I remember one year our president said if the NY Yankees won the world series one of them would be painted for the Yankees... well, they won, and it was painted - and there was such an uproar - it even made the news! I thought it was ridiculous, but there are some individuals who take their Boston sports VERY serious

  10. it's good that it is very visible Carmen, yellow is such a happy color, indeed it stands out against the green.

I don't know where else in San Mateo County they have these cute fire hydrants..so far, the only place I've noticed them is in Millbrae. They really stand out, though, which is good.

The hydrant reminds me, in a way, of some of those cartoon characters you see in animated films.

I guess the bright hydrants are easy for firefighters to find. I like them better than the red ones.

    Dulce -
How old is your son...must be little still, enjoying Sponge Bob. I remember those days with my three sons. They pass by far too quickly.

    Becca -
I do think that fire hydrant stands out - you can't miss it.

I agree with you. It's human luck is just the way it turned out, I believe.

    Thom -
I think it's a fire hydrant with personality, for sure!

Your comment is so right on. I passed up that fire hydrant taking my son to his commuter train - and made a point of stopping back by to get a photo of it ( I usually keep my camera with me all the time since I always miss a shot if I don't have it ).

    Geeta -
I think it would be a hoot to have fire hydrants painted like characters...probably easier to get away with it on a college campus rather than a city municipality.

I do think yellow is so much more cheerful than red fire hydrants. I know I've seen fire trucks that are not the traditional red - but not this bright yellow - more of a chartreuse.

I smile, too, every time I drive past those fire hydrants.

I'm not sure how recently that hydrant got painted. It's actually not in my city - ours are the regular red.
