Alphabe-Thursday, Rainbow Summer School - Violet - September 9, 2010

Alphabe-Thursday, Rainbow Summer School - Violet - September 9, 2010

Such a lovely color,
Part of a rainbow's hue,
In the visible light spectrum,
Not just a mix of red and blue.

Violet flower and bee

Violet has a calming effect,
And helps us be more aware,
It is the color of humanitarians,
For those who really care.

So many flowers are violet,
From ones that bear the name,
To exotic orchids and lilacs,
To roses of international acclaim.

Violet flowers

Violet inspires higher ideals,
This color of queens and kings,
It often relates to the fantasy world,
And escape from more mundane things.

More violet flowers

It's the color of shades of cosmetics,
That brighten the lips and the eyes,
Though, for some, it does little good,
No matter how much one applies!

Alphabe-Thursday, Rainbow Summer School - Indigo - September 2, 2010

Alphabe-Thursday, Rainbow Summer School - Indigo - September 2, 2010

Doris Day singing "Mood Indigo" - with Duke Ellington

Indigo

It is one of the rainbow's colors,
Between violet and deep blue,
In truth,it runs the gamut,
Of many a varying hue.

It's the blue of a sky at midnight,
And a bird who carries the name,
Since ancient times in India,
Indigo dye achieved greatest fame.

The prized stone known as lapis,
Is mined in Afghanistan,
Treasured by earliest civilizations,
From early Egypt to present day man.

There is even an indigo mushroom,
Standing out on the forest floor,
They are an edible variety,
If you choose to go out and explore.

Indigo is the color of infinity,
It is the symbol of wisdom, too,
Indigo is for introspection,
To figure out what you need to do.

Alphabe Thursday - Rainbow Green - It's Not Easy Being Green - August 19, 2010

Alphabe Thursday - Rainbow Green - It's Not Easy Being Green - August 19, 2010

Green is a special color,

That can help us feel more calm,
A color found in nature,
It's like a soothing balm.

It is the color of forests,
And also of jungle scenes,
And Ireland, the Emerald Isle,
Is full of incredible greens.

Green is the color of juicy limes,
And of leaping, jumping frogs,
And of other slithery critters,
That live in watery, smelly bogs

Spinach and peas are green,
And broccoli's green as well,
I'd rather eat Key Lime pie,
It's green and tastes so swell!

Alphabe-Thursday's Rainbow Summer School, Rainbow Orange, August 5, 2010

Alphabe-Thursday's Rainbow Summer School, Rainbow Orange, August 5, 2010

For some reason, folks seem to be having trouble with the color orange.  I looked
through my clothes closet and I have very little in that color though I do love tropical
colors.  My wardrobe certainly boasts a lot of cruise clothes in hot pinks, purple and
turquoise but orange is definitelymissing.  I love oranges, apricots, and other orange
fruits, mmmm, and especially, mangoes and papayas, those rank at the top and they
are lovely and orange.

Pumpkin, too, is one of the great orange fruits.  I can smell pumpkin pie baking in
the oven though Halloween is still far way...and pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cookies,
pumpkin bread.  Just the other day, I had some overripe bananas and made a
wonderful pumpkin banana bread.  The aroma had everyone hovering outside the
oven with cries of "Is it done yet?"

So many of the remarkable sunrises and sunsets of my life - and I have been so blessed
to see them from islands and countries all over the globe - have been tinged with hues of orange.  They are a heavenly palette that man is hard pressed to duplicate.

I don't have any orange pictures in my files except flowers so I thought I would put those
up for you to see.
