UE's Weekend Challenge - Seascape & Sundays in My City. May 19, 2013

This beautiful view is only about three miles from where I live, in Pacifica,
California, next to - of all places - the Mussel Rock Transfer Station Disposal
Site ( the local dump ).  The daisies and wildflowers reseed themselves and,
every Spring and Summer, the hillside is a mass of spectacular blooms,  I
think it is one of the prettiest spots I've ever seen.

  1. WOW! That is such a pretty spot! I could stay there forever just marveling at the beauty of those beautifully colored petals, the inviting water and the oh so wonderful sky! Thank you for me a huge smile with this spectacular shot :)

    1. kulasa, I'm glad you like this scene. I can't tell you how many times I've returned to this spot over the years. That it is so close to home makes it even more wonderful.

  3. that is so beautiful Carmen, I always love the hillsides with wildflowers in full boom, they are like the icing to our beautiful cake, the rugged coast :)

    1. I agree, betchai, from one end to the other, we, Californians, are blessed to live where we do. When I first moved here, I visited Mendocino once. It reminded me so much of the Massachusetts coast, near Rockport, which I visited often 40 years ago when I lived in the Boston area. I always planned to get back but never made it. Any time I head down to Santa Cruz, Carmel or Monterey, I always drive Highway 1, rather than the freeway because I just love the slower coastal route.

    1. It is a blessing to have such scenery in your own back yard. I'm originally from Columbus, Georgia, on the Alabama - Georgia border...the Chattahoochee River has some nice views but I don't think they compare with Pacific scenery!!

  5. Those are wonderful wildflowers looking over the awe-inspiring Pacific. From this perfect seascape as well as from your outstanding header shot, I am guessing you love yellow! So do I.

    1. Sallie, you are so right. Yellow is my favorite color. I've always loved yellow roses with purple and yellow irises as a bouquet of flowers. I just think it is such a bright, cheerful color. In foggy, northern California, it's always so welcome.

    1. I agree, it does look like a postcard. I've often used it for notecards.

This will be my third sojourn in India since Dec 2011. Since massive budget cuts to the Dept of Public Health in San Francisco ended my 21 year forensic nursing position and retirement on only a half pension, I've found it really hard to make ends meet here. I've many friends from my cruising days with Royal Caribbean ( 78 in 16 years ) who are from India so I've gone there to see them and I enjoy the cultures, the food, and the people. Last time, I stayed five months in Jaipur, the first time four months in Mumbai. This time, I'll also be in Mumbai...but I do travel about other parts of the country.

  9. It looks fabulous! I can imagine sitting there and dreaming as the gentle sound of the waves splashed against the rocks. Nature has so much beauty to offer us. Thanks for bringing it to us! :D

    1. I do love it here, Vidya...and, even in summer, the temperatures never get much above 75 degrees ( never can figure out celsius! ) - that's why the surfers are always in wetsuits! Indeed, we can hardly improve on nature when it comes to beauty. Your country ( and my adopted one ) has some amazing scenery as well.

  10. I love that picture. Maybe someday I'll come across a Lake Michigan bluff with flowers at the top like that.
