Look Up, Look Down Challenge, Week 53 - The California State Capitol - August 21, 2014

I

On a bright sunny day, against a blue sky background, the state capitol
of California looks especially beautiful.

This neoclassical structure, home to the government of
California is located in Sacramento.  The office of the
governor is here.

Based on the U. S. Capitol Building in Washington, D. C.,
it was completed between 1861 and 1874 and, in 1973, it
was listed on the Office of the National Register of Historic Places.

Skywatch Friday - Sacramento Sunset - December 17, 2013

I decided to drive around last evening to look at some of the Christmas displays.
Nothing however, rivaled, that put on by nature.  It was so spectacular, I had to
pull off the road and get out, camera in hand, to snap a few pictures.  Wish I had
been near the ocean!

I stayed, watching this incredible display, till darkness settled.

Camera Critters #264 - The Bees Are Buzzing - April 27, 2013

Today is a bit cool ( 54 degrees right now ) and a bit overcast ( I keep thinking
that I'll be sweltering in Mumbai's 100 degree temperatures in a month ) but
flowers are blooming everywhere and, with them, bees are cavorting and
satiating themselves with nectar.

I'm excited because my brother, who lives in the Atlanta area, called and will
be out on Monday to see a client in Sacramento.  He'll stay over Tuesday to
meet his new great niece, Harper Ann Vukasinovic, who debuted on April 14th,
so I'll drive up Monday and have a couple of days with my granddaughter, too.
Wish Susan, my lovely sister-in-law were making the trip with him. I haven't
seen them since they were out for Laura and Alex's wedding which was three
years ago May 10th.  They will will celebrate an anniversary and Laura's first
Mother's Day!

Friday Flash 55 - Playing With The Pooches - August 12, 2011

I'm glad the Terminator's gone,
To me, he seemed a freak,
Though admired far and near,
For his muscular physique.

He did little for the Golden State,
And left office cloaked in shame,
For some politician movie stars,
Every woman seems fair game!

Republican husband, Democrat wife,
Seems, to me, a source of certain strife!

I am a hundred miles north of my Daly City home, house sitting with my two
granddogs while my son, Alex, and his wife, Laura are spending eight days on
a two island vacation in Hawaii - four days on Oaha and four days on Kauai.
It's Laura's first time in Hawaii though I've taken my boys there twice.
They are having a wonderful time and I am really enjoying the adoration of
these two doggies.  I can't believe how loving they are.  There is no question
in my mind that pets can lower one's blood pressure.  I have felt so relaxed
since I got here.  Taffy and Bucky are constantly with me, following me
from room to room and, of course, they hop onto that California king bed
at night to keep me company.  I'll really miss them when the kids get home!

Friday Flash 55 - Reading at 65 MPH - April 1, 2011

Driving down the freeway,
With traffic such a bore,
I'm really not so bothered,
By it any more.

The trip to Sacramento,
Two hours passes fast.
With a really good audio book,
I'd like to make it last!

Now my jouney ends - at the book's most crucial part!
I'm  left hanging - until my homeward start!

Momma Paparazzi - Pictures from Saturday in West Sacramento - September 13, 2010

Momma Paparazzi - Pictures from Saturday in West Sacramento - September 13, 2010

My boys give me such a hard time about having to pose for photographs for my blog,
calling me names like "Momma Paparazzi" and blocking shots with their hands or
whatever they can grab.  Honestly, they only comply when I rant about delivering the last
two of them without epidurals even though they both weighed in excess of eight and a
half pounds each ( Jeremy was 9 pounds, eight ounces ).  I guess I should have started
blogging when they were children.  I think mothers of little ones don't have this problem.

We were all a little somber on Sunday after Saturday night's gunshot incident but I did
get a few photographs earlier on Saturday when we had dinner and celebrated our reunion
with Shawn, my oldest son who had just gotten home from his four months of active duty
in Germany with his Air Force reserve unit from Travis Air Force Base which is located
about sixty miles from San Francisco. Laura's parents and her brother, his wife, and
their sweet little son, Conner, came and my three boys and their ladies were there.  It
was a nice gathering.  I really like Laura's family, especially her mother, Christine, who
is also an R.N.

My granddogs are very sweet and they always remember me.  In fact, Bucky leaped
through the van window when we pulled up.  He is no lightweight, either but he is pretty
agile!

This is my youngest son Jeremy, who will be 26, November 2nd, with his lovely girlfriend,
Katie.  He was a division one college decathlete at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and
Katie was a heptathlete there.

These are the newlyweds ( May 7th ), Laura and Alex.  I can't believe it is already four
months since their wedding.  He had his 28th birthday August 27th.

This is Shawn, my oldest son who will be 40 in December.  He's been in the Air Force
Reserves about twenty years now.  He missed his brother's wedding by a week.  It
looks like Laura has forgiven him - he was supposed to be best man but the Air Force
wasn't sympathetic.

Laura - pretty from any angle!

Conner - isn't he the sweetest?  Look at those blue eyes.

Conner was constantly pointing at the ceiling fan.  He doesn't have one in his house and
he really was intrigued by it.

Laura's delicious fruit tart

Mom, enough already!!!

They pulled out the bottom of the trundle bad and moved it into the living room for Shawn
and, instantly, Taffy hopped on!

What, this isn't for me?

Wait a minute - Bucky figured it was big enough for him, too!

The kids heading our for an evening in Sacramento, leaving me with the granddogs

Well, I realize I didn't get a picture of myself in here but that's fine.  I was in a bit of rush to
finish before the boys completely revolted and broke my camera!  The granddogs are
so much nicer about this whole thing!

"W" is For Wedding - the Marriage of Laura Winterhalter to Alexander Vukasinovic, May 7, 2010 - A few more photos for Alphabe Thursday, 6-24-10

"W" is For Wedding - the Marriage of Laura  Winterhalter to Alexander Vukasinovic, May 7, 2010 - A few more photos for Alphabe Thursday, 6-24-10

I realize, of course, that I already posted some pictures of the wedding of my middle son, Alex, to his beautiful, Laura, in a blog shortly after their May 7th wedding.  However, Laura recently sent me several hundred more photographs and, since "W" is our Alphabe letter today, I couldn't resist sharing some of them with you.

I can't believe that this Friday will be SEVEN weeks since the big day.  Time goes by so quickly!  I haven't even seen the happy couple since then.  While they live in West Sacramento, only about 110 miles from San Francisco, time constraints seem to always interfere with our traveling back and forth.  Laura works more than full time as a paramedic and Alex works a 4AM to noon shift at his job, then has classes most weekdays.  Occasionally, he tries to catch a couple of hours sleep.

These photos include some of the beautiful setting at Scribner Bend Vineyards in Sacramento.  It was truly a glorious day but it got chilly after the sun set.  I was lucky to have blankets in my car which I got for us to use as wraps!!  Of course, the folks who got up and danced didn't seem to be bothered by the drop in temperatures as the night wore on.
