Weekend Reflections #111 - Gondolas in Venice - November 7, 2011

I've thoroughly enjoyed my two Mediterranean cruises with included
overnights stops in Venice and two full days to explore that delightful
watery wonderland.  Someday, I'd like to have at least a week there.
Will need a lottery win to realize that dream!

I am participating in Weekend Reflections #111, a wonderful
meme.  Check it out and add your own photo to join in the fun.

  1. I just love Venice! I've been lucky enough to go several times. My grandfather was from the city. I've been told it's time we went again so who am I to argue? :)

  2. I love seeing photos of Venice. Its a great place to visit. Sigh, I can only enjoy your travel photos.

However, we have a local Venice Canals, here in Venice Beach. Not as grand, but it was patterned after Venice, Italy.

  4. What a heavenly spot...riding in a gondola...what a treat. I would love it. Went to Rome and Florence years ago, but never to Venice...what a shame. I am sorry now. Beautiful capture filled with nice colors. genie

  5. I loved Venice too, even though it poured rain the entire time we were there. Someday I hope to return as well.

When I first moved to CA, I lived a year in Orange County but I never made it to Venice Beach. On of these days when I visit friends in the L. A. area, I'll have to get there!

I have so loved traveling. I won't be doing much of it after this India trip, at least not internationally since the budget won't allow it. I'm so glad I saved these FF miles for a grand hurrah like India. I am so grateful I got to see so many wonderful places. Those memories will last the rest of my life.

Though it was expensive and folks told us it was "so touristy", my girlfriend and I loved our gondola ride. The one we chose was great because our gondolier sang opera as he maneuvered along the canals. We felt it worth every penny. I didn't indulge my second time, partly because we had a free boat ride over to the Murano factory and that took us down the Grand Canal and in and out of some of the waterways.

My two friends went to Venice in the dead of winter. They said it was pretty chilly and misty and many things were closed but they actually enjoyed being there at that time without so many tourists out and about.
