These little ground squirrels, cavort all over the rocks along the scenic 17 Mile
Drive which runs between Carmel and Pacific Grove, California. You pay a fee
to see some beautiful coastal views and posh neighborhoods and you can dine
at Roy's Restaurant at the Inn at Spanish Bay or picnic along the way.
Recommended picnic spots are between Point Joe and Seal Rock. There are
even areas where you can find picnic tables and it is wonderful to eat, looking
at the beautiful Pacific and feeling the sea breezes. The tables have often been
perches for the many sea gulls, though, so it's good to have a table cloth among
your items.

California is an incredible state for scenery. I'm only fifteen miles from downtown San Francisco but the Pacific Ocean is less than five miles from me and we still see deer occasionally and families of skunk, a racoon or possum. Joggers get warnings to be on the alert for mountain lions!!

I don't think we're supposed to feed the ground squirrels but they are so friendly, it is hard not to do so!

Glad you liked my pictures. Posting them made me want to go back down there. It's been awhile since I've seen the area...unfortuntely, retirement has changed a lot of things for me.
The Chair Speaks -
It is a nice way to spend a day and, since it's only a two hour drive from my home, it's easy to do in a day.

I've lived near the ocean, in one part of the country or the other, for about 40 years now. I don't think I could ever be inland!!

Isn't the header nice? I took that photo about a mile from my house last spring. It is one of my all time favorite photos.
