One Shot Wednesday #11 - There's Something in the Air - September 15, 2010

One Shot Wednesday  #11 - There's Something in the Air - September 15, 2010

Sunrise was an  awesome sight,
Pastels lit up the sky,
I felt a new chill in the air,
I bade summer a fond goodbye.

The school bus stop was crowded,
As I made the drive to work,
I'm so glad I'm not a teacher,
I would surely go berserk.

Already I notice changes,
In our once bright floral display,
There isn't a shadow of a doubt,
Autumn is on its way!

I can't wait to get a coffee,
That tastes like pumpkin pie,
It will be a small transition,
From my early morning chai!

Soon the ghosts and goblins,
Will be clamoring at our door,
Hoping for tooth decaying sweets,
If mothers allow them anymore.

Then, before you know it,
Autumn will fade away,
And wintery cold will barrel in,
On a blustery snowy day.

Your poetry is always so expressive, Carmen! I just want to linger on to summer for a longer time..

  22. Yup, Pete...Pumpkin pie coffee...it's a stranger world this side of pond.
Carmen, excellent poem, full of movement and joy. I felt the tingling excitement and felt the transition throughout moving as quickly as time actually seems to flee. Just the right meter. Well done. Gay (@beachanny)

Actually, I'm too cheap to buy Starbuck's pumpkin spice coffee. I just make my own strong French dark roast coffee and had pumpkin pie spice to it!

    Dulce -
I can't believe that summer is already on its way out. Perhaps it's just my increasing years but time really seems to be speeding by far more quickly these days.

    gautami tripathy -
Fortunately, living on the San Francisco peninsula, the weather this summer, for the most part has rarely been above 70.

    Icy BC -
I can totally understand why you want summer to hang around a bit longer. You have the cold weather far too long!

    Glynn -
I'm glad you liked my "autumn" poem.

    Shashi -
Thank you so much for your kind words about my poem.

    Maggie May -
I was just telling someone that time seems to fly by...maybe it's because of my age.

    Kay -
I'm sure places that have been sweltering with the heat all summer are really longing for autumn. Luckily for me, living in the San Francisco, we've no need for air conditioning with only a rare hot day.

    dustus -
Eighteen months ago, in massive budgt cuts in San Francisco, I lost my forensic nursing job of 21 years and ended up retiring on only a half pension. My income dropped $90,000 a year. Since that time, no Starbucks for me...I make my own pumpkin spice coffee.

    Leo -
Monsoon - aren't those usually summertime storms? I'm not sure if you're in India or not...I'll have to check your bio.

    signed...bkm -
I love pumpkin! I have one cookbook that is filled with great pumpkin recipes...my favorite is a pumpkin fudge.

    Eric Alder -
We don't have much foliage change of color in the San Francisco area. I really miss seeing that.

    Sharkbytes -
I'll bet it won't take you more than a few bitter cold, blustery days till you long for spring and warmer days again!

    steviewren -
Our weather stays so much the same all year long, we don't really get the thrill of seasonal changes.

    ρομπερτ -
Is the weather getting colder in Athens? My oldest son, by the way, just got back from four months active duty in Germany with the Air Force reserves...somewhere near Bittberg, I think it was.

    secret agent woman -
I don't love cold weather but our San Francisco temperatures don't change radically, regardless of the season.

    Jingle -
Halloween is fun but, the last few years, there have been so few children out trick or treating, it hasn't really felt like that holiday.

    Self Sagacity -
I'll be 66 on October 3rd. I've nothing planned. It's going to be a rather sad day for me...what with having been in Europe ( Rome ) on my last two birthdays and usually out of the country somewhere for at least the last fifteen!

    ninotaziz -
To really see changing seasons, I have to go north, up to Lake Tahoe or that area - or head to Oregon or Seattle!

    Glynis -
I also am happy when a fellow poet likes my work.

    Pete Marshall -
The coffee has pumpkin pie spice in it...I make my own since I can't afford Starbucks any more.

    Beachanny -
You're the best...it's always nice when folks says such nice things about my poetry.
