Alphabe-Thursday, Rainbow Summer School - Silver - September 16, 2010

Alphabe-Thursday, Rainbow Summer School - Silver - September 16, 2010

I'm a fan of all things silver,
A bright and shiny hue,
To lift my sagging spirits,
Just a little touch will do.

I wear lots of silver jewelry,
My ears shine with lovely things,
I've amassed a large collection,
Of all sorts of silver rings!

There's nothing like a table,
To befit a special guest,
With china and sterling silver,
To make it look its best.

On the ritziest occasions,
To feel just like a queen,
I don my sparkling tiara,
With its shiny silver sheen.

Of course, I need a special dress,
To compliment my crown,
Alas, my budget won't allow,
A truly gorgeous gown!

At least, I'll splurge on makeup,
And my eyes will surely be,
All silver, shine, and sparkle,
For that's what folks expect of me!

  2. whoo hoo! Look at those sparkley eyes! Have you ever worn glitter eye makeup like that? Some of the people who perform in dance competitions do... it was a trend that seemed to be starting up just as my daughter was finishing up.

  3. Carmen, you nailed exactly how I feel about silver. Beautiful poem and images. A fitting way to end the summer of rainbows. I always think the innermost arc is silvery.

Have I ever told you how much I love that header?

  6. Fun! How do you manage to whip up a poem on any subject?

On another note, Port Orford is only sixty miles from the California border, on US 101.

  7. Those eyes are something! I'm not as glitter-loving as you.

  8. I quail at the thought of participating in anything that would require anything dressier than a really nice t-shirt.!

  9. P.S. to you and Lakeviewer: "On another note, Port Orford is only sixty miles from the California border, on US 101."

Did you guys know that all of coastal California is moving north? L..A. is in a bigger hurry that S.F. though, and the two will eventually be neighbors.

  11. Rocky Mountain Woman -
It's amazing how much jewelry I've accumulated in my nearly 66 years - and I have three sons. Finally got a daughter-in-law in May, a wonderful girl, but our tastes in jewelry are so different.

At 65, I've done it! My poetry book - Life's Journey by Carmen Henesy - is out on Amazon!
( Poems about the things that have been important to me in my journey through life, some humorous, some sad, some that may have meaning to you as well )

    Mary -
I am really into eye makeup - started using it when I was an operating room nurse and that was the only thing visible above my mask. I haven't ever done something as fancy as the sparkles and rhinestones but I wish I could learn how...maybe a project for my 66th year, coming up in October!

    lakeviewer -
Writing poetry has always been pretty easy for me. I've been doing it all my life - started at the age of six...can't figure why it took me till 65 to finally publish a poetry book!
I didn't realize you were just over the CA border..but, then, the border is still a good way from San Francisco!

    GardenofDaisies -
To be perfectly honest, while I love eye makeup and often wear three shades at once, I've never done glitter and rhinestones. I would love to wear it but someone would have to help me out first.

    Cheryl -
I am so pleased you enjoyed my "silver" poem! As for the header, I just chanced on that spot about two miles from my house. It's one of my most favorite photos.

    Sue -
That poem was fun to write.

    Sharkbytes (TM) -
I haven't done that fancy eye shadow but if someone would show me how, I think it would be fun for something like New Year's. I'm pretty good at some fancy stuff but that would require instruction!

    Snowbrush -
I guess, after 45 years as an RN, many of it in scrubs for 16 hours or more a day, I enjoy getting dressed to the gills from time to time. That's why cruising was fun for me. I actually got to wear something fancy for a change...but there were days just to chill. At dinner, I got dressed up.

I know that we Californians are often not well
liked in Oregon. Maybe we are misbehaving.

    A 2 Z -
I do pretty well with my many colors of eye shadow but this old girl has never mastered the art of that fancy stuff, like the rhinestones, etc. I saw that picture today and liked it. I might try my hand sometime!!

  12. Ciao Carmen, how are you today? I hope you are fine and all is well!

Is silver your favorite color?? Have you tried it as an eyeshadow?? I would think that mixing blue and silver on your eyelids would look really pretty on you!

    Take Care,
    C

  13. "I know that we Californians are often not well liked in Oregon."

Surely you don't take it personally that we call those of you who move here Californicators? Ha. I remember the first car I saw that had an Oregon tag--at least it was the first car I remember that had an Oregon tag. I saw this car in the mid-1970s in New England, and it also had a bumper sticker that suggested that people who wanted to move go anywhere but Oregon. So many of us are here because we know only too well how screwed up much of the country is. I certainly know that, after living here for 20+ years that I would never consider living east of the Rockies again. Of course, we humans tend to destroy that which we love, and, simply by moving here, we are loving Oregon to death.

I don't have the right skin tone for silver. I sure love the way it looks in your pictures.
