"V" Is For Vacation - Alphabe Thursday, June 17, 2010

"V" Is For Vacation - Alphabe Thursday, June 17, 2010

“V” is for vacation,
And I wish that I could say,
I was printing out a boarding pass,
And heading on my way!

I’ve done a lot of travel,
To places far and near,
But I feel a bit woebegone,
I’m staying home this year!

Last year, I went to Rome,
And cruised to Monaco,
And feasted on great seafood,
Everywhere I'd go!

The Coliseum, Rome, Italy

The harbor of Monte Carlo, Monaco

Grilled squid, Split, Croatia

I’ve been to far Japan,
A land of sights serene,
Such history and culture,
In settings most pristine.

Sensoji Temple, Tokyo, Japan

Hawaii, with its islands,
Has often welcomed me,
I’d love to feel its tradewinds,
While I rest beside the sea.

India is always in my heart,
Since my visit long ago,
A country of countless contrasts,
That left me all aglow.

I’m blessed with many memories,
To sustain me when I’m home,
Since retirement and my budget,
No longer let me roam!

  3. Wonderfully poetic post today. Excellent read and with such smooth rhythmic rhyme.

Thanks for popping by yesterday, I'm trying to catch up with all my visitors this morning. The baby turtle release was a grand success...I'll have photos of this event next week on my blog.

  4. Having been all my life a stay-at-home dummy, fearful of risking moving far away, I only dream of those places you've been and wish to visit.

I DO look at cities like Budapest, Amsterdam, Cairo, (only a recent fantasy) Madrid. I have traveled my own U.S., but what a world there is to learn in being out IN the world. And what delights are waiting, to be immersed in different cultures. Oh, if life were only to last a few more decades...I would begin NOW! TODAY!

Love your blog and your travelogue!

You have some wonderful memories of all these places.
I don't really want to leave my rabbit this year. How daft is that?

  16. A good poem. But I feel bad that you can't do the thing you love. The good thing is that until you can travel again you have very good memories of all the other times.

  18. Kids keep me grounded but I hope to one day travel again. Your poem made me thing back at my own experiences. I believe everyone should travel and experience somewhere different even if only once.

  20. Good verses. I have seen some of those places but not Japan, and not this year. I go back to my pictures and relive some of my past travels. Staycations can be fun too:

Wonderful. With seven days of work, surely felt. And yes, it is indeed many times the best of place, staying home. Please have a wonderful start into the weekend.

  22. This is why its so important to travel when you have the opportunity. I have my list I look back on, too.

  23. We are not traveling this year either, although our destinations have never been this exotic :) What wonderful memories you must have. We will get to sneak in a little water time on the Texas coast, but it will be a "busman's holiday", as we will be working an outdoor art festival. But I say time on the coast working is better than time inland not working! Kathy

Hope your family's father's day was an awesome one :o)
Still trying to get to more "V" posts!
