  1. are we at the same place? I went to Ponsonby in Auckland, there was a row of houses like this/ It is too narrow for my liking.

  13. How lovely. Yes, why are they called Castro houses?

  14. Ann - I looked at your blog article on the
Ponsonby houses...they do look like the ones on Castro St. Of course, we have many such houses all over San Francisco. You know, I spent two wonderful days in Auckland at the end of a twelve day cruise that started in Sydney. It was such a wonderful trip....well over 18 years ago. I would so love to return...but my job loss as a forensic nurse for San Francisco in massive budget cuts and subsequent retirement, with my income decrease of $90,000/year, decimated my travel budget.

  15. Poetic Shutterbug - I always dreamed of owning a yellow Victoria in the city but I think I could make do with this blue and yellow place on Castro...it's near the Noe Valley Bakery and some good eateries ( just what I need, huh? )

  16. cheesecakepoi - cute name!! In San Francisco, you see houses, especially the wonderful Victorians, of all colors and trims that are amazing. I just love them!

  19. lakeviewer - these houses are on Castro Street, hence I called them the Castro Street houses. There are a number of nice Victorians there and in the Noe Valley area of San Francisco.

  20. Liz - San Francisco real estate is so expensive -
this little house probably costs at least $800,000!

  21. eileeninmd - San Francisco is filled with the most beautiful Victorians - there is a book of them, called "Painted Ladies" - great colors for these homes - and many companies that specialize in painting them.

  22. Manang Kim - I've always loved these wonderful San Francisco houses. Even after 33 years in the area, driving down streets that have them always makes me smile.

  23. Earl's Daughter - when I first moved to the San Francisco area 33 years ago, I bought a watercolor of a little yellow Victorian house, hoping that, someday, I might own one...thus far, it still hasn't happened. I'm sad to say, with my job loss in budget cuts 15 months ago - after 21 years as a forensic nurse for the city - and an income drop of $90,000 a year, even paying the rent is difficult!!!!

  25. Cai - weekdayphotos.com - I looked at your site and the interesting memes. You've got some great photographers there and I'm sure I will participate sometime...though I don't measure up to the others!

  26. Welshcakes Limoncello - the houses are located on Castro Street. They are just a small section of many beautiful Victorians there.
