Emergency Room - Saturday, June 12, 2010
I have been miserable since this past Monday when I did my swan dive off the curb at the beach in Pescadero and fell, with a decidely unladylike flop on my right shin. The whole area has continued to swell and the entire right leg has been affected. It's been five days now and the last twenty-four hours have gotten much worse. I am in so much pain and the bruising is everywhere. I've been icing it and keeping it elevated as much as possible. Last week, I completed a ten day course of Septra, an antibiotic for cellulitis in that lower leg but, today, the leg was warm to the touch, very edematous ( swollen ) and extremely painful. As much as I hated to do it, I finally went in to the emergency room.
The doctor gave me IV antibiotics and a ten day regimine of antibiotics by mouth and he wants me to come in the morning for another venous ultrasound. I told him I'd just had one on the 4th which was negative but he is concerned that, since the injury, I might have developed a clot. All I know is that I am in a lot of pain! I'm supposed to stay in bed with my feet elevated ( like I've been out dancing every day, right? ).
Forgive me if I can't keep up with posts and comments and following your blogs for a few days. I'll try to have my laptop in bed to work but it isn't all that easy. As soon as I'm back to normal
( well, abnormal ), I'll catch up!
Hugs to everyone!

oooh...I can feel the pain! Take it easy and hope it starts feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteI did something similar to my ankle a while ago and that was quite bad enough. Hope you feel better very soon. Look on the bright side, the nail varnish matches nicely! :) :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're in so much pain, Carmen. The bruises look painful, indeed. Take care, and take it easy.
ReplyDeleteOh, that does not look good. I think its going to take awhile for all that to go away but hopefully, at least the pain will stop soon.
ReplyDeleteoh Carmen, I am so sorry to hear the pain has lingered and gotten worse, hope nothing serious developed and that soon you will be free from pain.
ReplyDeleteYour leg looks quite painful and I will pray for a quick recovery. I've been there--in an emergency room with a banged up leg and a doctor's concern of a blood clot. Therefore, please don't think I'm being unfeeling, when I say your toe nails are such a nice shade of purple! Bet you weren't planning on them matching your leg, but isn't it nice that your feet were presentable?!
ReplyDeleteBad luck there. Hope it clears up soon for you, these things can be infuriating.
ReplyDeleteOuch, take care and get better asap, Carmen!
ReplyDeleteOw ow ow. Believe me, I sympathize. Hope you heal up quickly.
ReplyDeleteOh Carmen, that looks horrid! I'm so sorry to hear about your pain. I'll be thinking of you and praying for you. Hope you heal quickly and that they can give you something for the pain!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a speedy recovery and many getting well wishes as well.
ReplyDeleteget well soon.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh your leg and foot are so swollen, I do hope the antibiotics are kicking in and helping you some......I would of thought after 5 days things should be better and not worse, please do everything the doctor says, hopefully the pain will be gone soon.....Hugs
ReplyDeleteDonna - I can't believe how long this recovery is taking. Tomorrow is a week since I fell!
ReplyDeleteTina - it still hurts like the devil...especially if I sit at the computer so I am not doing that much. I'm in less pain if I'm lying down with the foot elevated but then I am so bored!

Icy BC - there's one upside to all this - Jeremy is not nagging me to get on the treadmill right now!
ReplyDeleteViki - my doc gave me Vicodin, then Percoset
ReplyDelete( which I'd never taken before ) for pain. Neither seems to help too much. Amazing. I guess it just has to run its course.

betchai - I thought I had mastered the art of walking but, to tell the truth, my balance isn't as good as it used to be...and this was sober!
ReplyDeleteB. Meandering - I like your philosphy on your profile! And your sense of humor here. I haven't had a pedicure since my son's wedding May 7th - glad the color lingered for my ER visit...I did my eye shadow as well...pain or no pain, there are some things a lady has to do!

Kevin Musgrove - I am growing a bit impatient here...a week is long enough so, by tomorrow, I want it all cleared up! I have this philosophy that nurses shouldn't be afflicted like this..only moderately. We are the bitchiest patients, you know!

ReplyDeletesecret agent woman - this is all interefering with my having fun! I couldn't even get out for my Sunday dose of jazz!
ReplyDeleteTina - I'll take all the prayers I can get...and I do have pain meds, thankfully. That and a dose of Grey Goose will help!
ReplyDeleteρομπερτ - Robert, I'm just glad I didn't break the darn leg. If it's taking me this long to recover from a fall, can you imagine how long I'd be getting well from a fracture??? Thanks for the good wishes!
ReplyDeleteKamana - thanks for your good wishes from paradise...I know I'd heal faster on one of your beautiful beaches!
ReplyDeleteBernie - I must say, I'm getting really good and attentive medical care...and I am trying to be a reasonable patient ( for once in my life ). I'm an impatient patient, though.
ReplyDeleteOuch Carmen! This looks so painful! I hope you are feeling a little better by now. Please get better soon!
ReplyDeleteare you better now?
