A swimmer caught in a rip current should not attempt to swim back to the shore. Doing so can lead to exhaustion and drowning. Actually it is not so dangerous. If you are caught, you should just float and be calm.
Seal Rock is a spectacular sight! The colors of the water and rocks is really pretty and nothing like you see on the east coast...at least here in the south.
Trotter - you're having such fun all over the world, San Francisco isn't at the top of the list...but come see me sometime!!!!
I've never made it to Sardinia but wish I could see it sometime.
At 65, I've done it! My poetry book - Life's Journey by Carmen Henesy - is out on Amazon! ( Poems about the things that have been important to me in my journey through life, some humorous, some sad, some that may have meaning to you as well ) http://www.amazon.com/Lifes-Journey-1-Carmen-Henesy/dp/1451547366/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274652997&sr=1-1
Shiju Sugunan - I guess it's pretty scary, though, to the average swimmer, to get caught in a riptide.
Here, at an area near Half Moon Bay, there is a surfing championship that draws people world wide when a phenomenon called "the Mavericks" takes place. I guess, with technology, they know almost exactly when it will occur. Sadly, a world reknowned surfer was killed a few years ago.
Glynis - San Francisco is a great city....beautiful views, probably like your island of Cyprus.

lakeviewer - I am so behind on comments. I see you visited my San Francisco post! As always, thanks for stopping by!
Bits-n-Pieces - San Francisco is filled with such beautiful vistas...you have to have a camera with you at all times.
ρομπερτ - I never get tired of this city and the Pacific. It does have it quirks but I'll take it over most places in the world.
ruma2008 - It is a large beach and there is another one almost as large a bit further south in Montara. When you visited San Francisco, did you get down Highway 1 toward Half Moon Bay or just stay in the city?
Pat @ Mille Fiori Favoriti - I didn't know the Pacific was wilder than the Atlantic. It always seems pretty calm to me. I just love the ocean, whatever mood.
steviewren - the ocean is so cold out here. In 33 years, I have not ever been in the water, can you believe it? I've gotten in as far as my foot and that's it. Of course, Hawaii is different.
Hi Carmen! Wish I was there... ;)
