Mellow Yellow Monday - 4/12/10 - Cocoaland Mango Gummies

Cocoaland Mango Gummies

I first discovered these mango gummies from Malaysia at my neighborbood grocery, Manila Market, in Daly City, CA where they cost $3.99 a bag.  They are absolutely addicting.  I started taking them with me on cruises, giving them out to the crew, in little plastic bags, along with their tips and, now, whenever I get on a ship, they come up and ask me, "Miss Carmen, where's our candy?"  I finally located a wholesaler in Oakland who sells them to me by the case so I end up paying a dollar less a bag but I have to get $200 worth.  In the last five years, I know I've bought 25 cases of 24 bags each.  The Royal Caribbean crew love them and so do all my friends and family.  If you ever come across a bag, try them.

Here's Sanjay Dicholkar, one of the finest bartenders ever, with Royal Caribbean - holding up one of the mango gummies. I sailed with him on the Mariner of the Seas and on the Serenade of the Seas. He's one of my Indian "sons" and a good friend. I love it when he calls and leaves me a message and says "Mother India." He has the warmest smiles and is the epitomy of good service!

This is my mellow yellow Monday offering.

  5. What a lovely idea! I'll have think of something of my own for our Alaskan cruise in August. The Engineer's parents are celebrating their 50th and taking their WHOLE family along. What a treat! I haven't been cruising since Grandma Vivian took me and my sis in 1987. Can't wait! Happy Monday!

  9. These gummies are absolutely fantastic and addicting. Carmen, you know the ones you gave me for Easter? GONE THE NEXT DAY! I'm just coming down from that sugar high now - but it was so worth it. The strawberry ones are awesome too!

  11. Icy BC - these gummies are indescribable, really. They're hard to find, though! I'll have to send you some. Jo likes the strawberry ones they make but the mango are my favorite.

  12. Donna - these candies are hard to find. I saw them once on ebay for about $7/bag but I wouldn't pay that much for them....at Manila Market, they're $3.99 a bag.

  13. Kamana - these are wonderful candies. I've seen some other company's honeydew and lychee ones that are pretty good as well but they are about a third the size of these for the same price.

  14. Tina - I've done the Alaska cruise twice...both times on Royal Caribbean ships. It is so beautiful. What ship will you be on? I know you'll have a wonderful time.

  15. Walker - I am honored you stopped by. I checked your profile but it doesn't say where you are from. These candies are hard to come by. They do sell them at Manila Market near my home in Daly City, CA but, once, I looked online and had the hardest time trying to find them. I even emailed and tried calling the company in Malaysia to see if I could get them wholesale a bit cheaper...no luck. They are on facebook and I'm a fan but, again, they don't respond to communication. Everyone I give the candy to wants to buy it. Really, it's addicting!!

  16. Sharkbytes - well, in terms of crew, I like to give them a little something. I used to buy the small package of dried mangos from the Philippines and handed them out to the Filipino crew...but, when they went up to $1.79 a package, I couldn't afford it after I lost my job. I loved seeing their faces light up when I'd hand the package to them - they'd look at me and say, "These are from the Philippines" - like that isn't exactly why I got them! Those guys work so hard for so little and, sometimes, passengers really treat them so badly and it is an embarrassment to me.

  17. steviewren - you are so kind to say such a nice thing...I am truly blessed to have a world wide connection of friends. I might have dropped down to poverty level with the job loss but I definitely am wealthy in friends and I, too, love that they are international. They enrich my life so much.

  18. Poetic Shutterbug - I think those gummies must have some secret Malaysian ingredient in them that lures one back. We'll have to ask rainfield if he's heard of them.

I'll bring your strawberry ones on Friday.
