Handicapped Seagull ?

I was out driving in a downpour on Easter Sunday, with my camera handy on the front seat when I spotted this seagull in the parking lot of the Safeway grocery store.  I thought it was kind of cute, so I got a picture.  I was going to save it for a mellow yellow Monday post but, since my mind is blank, I thought I'd use it today.  He doesn't look disabled at all but he's taking up a handicapped parking place - that's a five hundred dollar fine in California!

  4. That was cute, Carmen. I have a similar photo like yours. Anyway, if you look again at that seagull, he is acting like he's injured though :-)

  5. That seagull, you'd think he'd know better!

And I was studying your header, because it's clearly Cherry Blossoms, but looks so different from the ones we have in D.C.!

  8. hitesh rawat - this seagull is pretty small. Actually, there were several of them, fighting over food. The Pacific Ocean is only a block away and, in this area, there are lots of restaurants, fast food ones and otherwise. Seagulls here can be pretty aggressive and there are hundreds of them.

  9. Icy BC - I thought the gull was walking a little funny but figured it might just be that he was bowlegged!

  10. Megan ( Best of Fates ) - My header is a "gift" to use from Ruma2008, a Japanese photographer friend whose blog is "Calligraphy in the Landscape" - I only know him from blogging but his photography is so incredibly stunning. I was drawn to his site because I've always loved Japan and, in the last few years, I've made two very short trips to Japan. Ruma's photographs are visual treasure and he does many of cherry blossoms.

  15. That's a lovely shot! What I'm wondering is how you got it...from the angle it looks like you had to lay down, in the rain, next to him... ;-) Though some of CA's laws baffle me, I highly approve of the $500 "Oh, I'll just park here anyway" fine. I used to drive my dear 97 year old Grandma and her walker around. Many times there were no handicapped spots to be had because some entitled IDIOT had parked their car there. Then I'd have to leave Grandma at the door, park elsewhere, and hope that I could find dear, sweet Alzheimer's Vivian behaving appropriately somewhere close by...

  16. Tina - I know what you mean...I have handicapped plates..I had extensive back surgery 25 years ago with residual effects but didn't need the placard for that. In recent years, I've developed both cervical and spinal stenosis and use a walker for distance, mainly because, occasionally, my left leg just gives way and, with a walker sit, I can just sit down, rather than fall on my ample duff. This getting old sucks.

The problem with people parking in handicapped spots who aren't entitled is that they're gone before they're ever ticketed. I don't used them if there are other spaces free.

  21. Maybe he doesn't mind the fine because he has plenty of sand dollars. :D

  24. Dulce - I wondered if the seagull wasn't injured as he didn't try to fly away. He looked like he might have hurt one of his legs. All his buddies took off and left him behind.

  25. Donna - It would take quite a cage to hold that seagull though he was small as far as gulls go.
