Mom," I couldn't stop crying. She is an incredible person, a wonderful partner for him, a hard worker ( she is a paramedic ), loyal, beautiful and so thoughtful. I was deeply touched when she called and invited me to go with her and her maid of honor to shop for her wedding dress. She commented that, since I had three sons, I might not ever have the opportunity, otherwise!
The shower was given by her maid of honor, Mandy, who did such a beautiful job of decorating the house. It was a girl's only event and Mandy's husband, Dave, seemed happy to vacate the house for a few hours. We played fun games and I loved meeting Laura's grandmother and aunts and friends. Of course, I knew her mom and a couple of other relatives, some of who were at Alex and Laura's for their first Thanksgiving dinner in their new home. Alex and Laura just flew to Georgia with my other son, Jeremy, and his girlfriend, Katie, so they could meet the boys' grandmother. Sadly, of course, she won't be at the wedding.

What a nice time that must have been! I wish Laura and Alex all the best as they begin their marriage.
ReplyDeleteMaggie May - I can't wait, now, for the wedding photos! This is such a joyful time for us all. Just wish my oldest son weren't being sent off to Germany and missing the wedding - but, at least, it's not Afghanistan as originally planned!
ReplyDeleteWhat an uplifting post. Everyone looks so happy and, of course, they are! I've never been quite sure what happens at a "bridal shower" so thanks for the education. Laura is, indeed, beautiful and how thoughtful of her to invite you to go shopping with her.
ReplyDeleteCinner - she is a sweet as she is pretty! The guys are being fitted for their tuxes this weekend. Even my oldest is going though he's supposed to be in Germany before the wedding...he's thinking the AF may delay their deployment with the volcano erupting in Iceland.
ReplyDeleteDonna - thanks for your good wishes to my Alex and his bride-to-be! Hope you are having a fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteIcy BC - now, if I could just change my oldest's mind about marriage. I think he means it when he plans to stay singe ( he's 39 )!
ReplyDeleteTina - this wedding stuff is kind of fun. I just sit back and enjoy it. I think it might be more of a headache for the bride's family!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the happy couple and all the mothers and grandmothers in the mix. What a lovely family get-together.
ReplyDeleteCarmen, how nice you shared this lovely young woman's bridal shower with all of us. I just love your photo stories. Your Alex is a dish worthy of his beautiful bride to be.
ReplyDeletelakeviewer - It was, indeed, a lovely day. I am not sure I'll have such an event with my older son who maintains he'll never marry but there is still hope for the 25-year-old though he tells me not to count on a marriage any time soon!
ReplyDeleteEnchanted Oak - Alex is a nice looking boy - I do have better pictures of him. I think they'll make a smashing couple on their wedding day!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the wonderful shower. I wish them both long life and happiness. I cannot wait to see the wedding pics, she will make a stunning bride.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to a lovely couple! Laura is a beautiful girl and your son Alex is very handsome. Bridal showers are such happy events. You must be on cloud 9 with joy, Carmen!

ReplyDeletePat @ Mille Fiori Favoriti - I am, indeed, on cloud 9. I think Alex and Laura will be a lovely bride and groom. A year ago, when they announced the wedding date, I thought it would never get here. I am so glad the wait is almost over!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the well wishes everyone! One week to go and we both are really excited! At least alex better be!!LOL!
ReplyDeleteLaura, many of my blogging buddies, as you can see, say how lovely you are ( without a doubt ). All wish you and Alex the best. I thought you looked especially pretty in the bacherlorette photos. Did you see the Taffy blog. Tomorrow's is Bucky's.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see you guys on Thursday and, at last, the big day is almost here.
