Easter Breakfast with Poetic Shutterbug - Mellow Yellow Monday, 4-5-10

Check out the rules at Mellow Yellow Monday and join in the fun!

No little Peter Cottontail hopped down the bunny trail to my house in Daly City today.  Nary a piece of chocolate  or MARZIPAN brightened my Easter.  It's a good thing I had a supply of wonderful Malaysian mango gummies to satisfy my candy cravings!  Nevertheless, I did have a lovely morning, in spite of the fact that rain and cool temperatures kept people shivering in their Easter finery.

My good friend, Joanne Olivieri, aka Poetic Shutterbug, treated me to breakfast at a place in San Francisco called the Tennessee Grill.  I hadn't seen her since our overnight jaunt down south to Culver City the end of January to see our beloved Sony Holland, the supreme jazz diva, perform.  Pretty sad, huh, but I had that long sojourn in Georgia, caring for my mother and, then the conference in Shell Beach and she's been busy getting her new poetry book, "Nameless Faces," published.

At any rate, it was wonderful seeing Jo again.  We were so busy chatting, we could barely get our food ordered.  I had hoped, with a name like Tennessee Grill, this Georgia girl might find grits on the menu and I was not disappointed.  They were not the instant kind, either, but the nice yummy slow cooking kind.

There's a little yellow in my shirt and in Jo's book of poetry - that counts for mellow yellow - Jo told me I looked like an Easter egg!

The cook at the Tennessee Grill asked to have his photo taken and I couldn't refuse since he was dressed for my mellow yellow post!

More yellow - butter on my grits and my spinach and cheddar omelet

Jo and I caught up on all the latest gossip and she gave me a lot of good hints on the publication of my poetry book.  Hopefully, once Alex's wedding is out of the way, I'll get that project off my list in short order.  I do hope I'll sell a few!

Update at 10:30PM Sunday night - the Las Vegas boys are back, quite sober though I understand they spent a good bit of the weekend under the influence.  My son, Jeremy, arranged a "party bus" for the twenty of them so there was no driving on their part between clubs, casinos, etc.  He had also arranged two suites for them at the Venetian where he usually stays and they all had a wonderful time.  Alex, the bridegroom, did very well after his first night with a little stomach distress and he and the Sacramento contingent made their flight home on time.

  17. Mountain Woman - where did you live before your mountain home? Jo and I always have a wonderful time together...just hate that it is so seldom. We will see each other soon, though, when our friend, jazz singer, Sony Holland, is in town for a gig. That will be a terrific event!!

  27. Having a meal with a friend is one of the most fun things any of us can do. This reminds me that even though I lived in the south for a few years when I was a kid, I don't think I've ever had grits. I always wanted to try them, but I've never had the chance. I think I need to try harder.

  30. magiceye = thanks for the good wishes. I've got the cover for the book almost done and, of course, the poems are already written - just have to get them formatted into the book.

  31. Ratty - Now a true Southerner eats grits with butter and salt and pepper - never sugar and raisins, etc....that's for cream of wheat or oatmeal. I do love grits and, sometimes, we eat them with cheese. My boys always liked them, too, but I used to buy them when I went home, not in San Francisco where a small box is priced outrageously.

  32. Lovely yellows!
Actually, I'm not playing today. I am trying to catch up with comments on other earlier memes. I owe you a comment!
But I'll get back to you, because I don't want to do a half way job on it!
    Happy Tuesday!
