Dogs

Dogs

Dogs come in every shape and size,
With coats both straight and curly,
Some breeds seem warm and friendly,
While others appear a little surly.

Dogs can be the working type,
Herding sheep or finding prey,
Others guard your hearth and home,
And some just like to play.

Often called "man's best friend,"
Dogs can fill the lonely times,
And, by their very presence,
They inhibit many crimes.

Dogs are loyal to their masters,
And love the children in their lives,
They become part of the household,
Where every single member thrives.

When those warm eyes look up at you,
And the wag begins to start,
You realize this dog before you,
Is the holder of your heart!

  5. What a lovely tribute to my favorite animals. I just finished two weeks of taking care of my best friend's 13 year old golden retriever. I miss him immensely and in just that short time developed some habits. I'm still "accidentally" dropping food on the floor for him (he loves popcorn and cucumber) and stepping out of bed carefully in the middle of the night. Me thinks I'm going to need to adopt a dog. (We didn't have one because no one was home during the day. That's not true anymore...)

  7. Icy BC - I've always loved dogs but, as a renter, it's been years since I've had one. As soon as Laura and Alex got their house, they adopted a shelter dog and, a month later, they got their second!

  8. Unseen Journey -
When my son, Alex, said he was getting a pit bull, I was horrified but he said the vet gave them a good report, said they are trained to be me. His Taffy is a sweetheart. Their second dog is also a love, more outgoing than Taffy who is quite the lady.

  9. willow - these are my grandogs. I haven't had a dog in years as I rent. I love them, though...I am hoping that, within a year of my son, Alex's May 7th wedding, I might actually have a grandchild to go with the granddogs!

  10. Donna - dogs might be man's best friend but we girls love them, too.

  11. Tina - I wish I could have a dog. At least, I've gotten to enjoy Alex and Laura's. They're a hundred miles away, though! Maybe when I really settle down and stop traveling or move closer to them, I'll get one of my own.

  12. lakeviewer - do you have a dog? I'd think some kind of retriever would love your area and would be bounding into the water all the time!
