Ocean Beach is not a great swimming beach. Water temperatures are about 55 degrees and it is dangerous surf with rip tides and strong currents. Mostly surfers use the water but it is nice for walking.

It is a beautiful beach. I haven't walked along there in ages but I used to find sand dollars.

    Ann -
San Francisco temperatures are usually cool so you don't get too many people laying out on the beach.

    And Miles To Go -
So glad you like my beach photos.

    LaLicincieda -
It is so nice living in the San Francisco area and having the ocean right in our back yards.

    Tina -
Actually, my photos were shot with my Canon digital camera - no wide angle lens. It has a pretty versatile range, though.

The beach is always good for photos - it sure is empty, though, compared to Miami or Coney Island!

    Sue -
I am amazed that Daly City was 91 degrees the other day. I bet Ocean Beach was crowded then...not like it was on the day of my photograph when it was about 65!!

The water at this beach is 55 degrees - with dangerous rip tides and currents. Our cooler San Francisco weather also doesn't draw many sunbathers!

    ruthi -
We've actually had summer temperatures around here. Our normal highs are never above 70 degrees and we had 90 yesterday!

    magiceye -
San Francisco rarely has weather that seems like summer elsewhere - but we sure have had summer temperatures these past few days - 90 degrees. However, we'll have a 30 degree drop tomorrow and it will be back to normal!

  15. Last time I was in San Francisco I was really struck by the difference between east and west coast beaches.

  16. I love the boat, as it reminds me of a boat made out of legos!

Because of the very cold water ( 55 ), dangerous currents, Ocean Beach isn't much for swimmers. It is a good spot, though, for running with your dogs.

    Arti -
Ocean Beach is so beautiful. It's usually a little cool for sunbathing and the water temp of about 55 doesn't encourage swimming and it is actually dangerous because of rip tides.

So glad you liked my Ocean Beach photos.

Have a splendid holiday. I'll be sure to visit Blogtrotter 2.

The water temperature is definitely different betweent west coast and east....although southern CA isn't at 55 like the sea is here.

The freighter does look like something from Legoland!!!
