Sony Holland & All That Jazz - Flash 55 Friday, August 13, 2010

Sony Holland & All That Jazz - Flash 55 Friday, August 13, 2010

Sony Holland sings a song,
Sending shivers down your spine,
Her sultry, sexy voice is one,
That leaves you feeling so divine!

Songs by husband, Jerry Holland,
Are exquisite as can be,
And American Songbook standards,
Shine with Sony artistry.

Sony has a way with jazz,
sometimes seductive,
sometimes pizazz!

Giving it all she has!

I am participating in Flash 55 where you must write a piece in just 55 words.
If you want to join in, go to Mr. G Man

Fans of Sony and Jerry Holland had a great time tonight when the L. A. residents were
back in town at one of their old venues, Cafe Divine, for a party for the release of their
new CD, Sanssouci.  The place was sold out a few weeks ago when it was announced
they would be performing tonight and tomorrow from 7PM to 9PM.  We've all been bereft
since they moved to Los Angeles in June last year though they did return once to play at
Cafe Divine and a San Francisco contingent went down for a couple of their L. A. gigs.
They are not just performers, the Hollands have become friends over the six plus years
they lived in San Francisco and, many of us, have formed friendships with each other,
meeting repeatedly at Sony and Jerry's venues.  So, tonight, was not only fabulous music
as only this duo can perform, it was "old home" week.

The new CD is wonderful, with five of Jerry's original compositions among the 13
selections and Sony is superb.  Jerry's guitar is phenomenol!  I can't wait for another
performance tomorrow night!

  18. Kay -
I'm delighted to have you meet my friends, the Hollands!

    Brian Miller -
It was a great weekend for me. I saw Sony and Jerry both Thursday and Friday. I just hate they are now living in L. A. and don't get back that often.

    swpurth -
Glad you liked my post about the Hollands!

    A Daft Scots Lass -
I'm always glad to promote my friends, the Hollands. I think they're a great musical talent.

    Sharkbytes -
I love jazz - a blues - and country - most music really but I'm not a big country or heavy metal fan.

    John's comments -
So glad you enjoyed my post about Sony and Jerry Holland!

    ruthi -
It always pleases me when someone listens to my friends and enjoys their music. Jerry is a great songwriter and no one does his songs like Sony.

    betchai -
I am so happy you got to enjoy Sony's music. Just wish you could hear them in person.

    G-Man -
It's been a great weekend. Two nights of Sony and Jerry at Cafe Divine, plus we went to Enrico's in North Beach after they finished and heard my favorite Latina singer, Valeriana Quevedo...since it was only about a mile away!

    Poetic Shutterbug -
Glad you liked the Flash 55...what a fun weekend. You are such good company.

    Jingle -
I really enjoyed writing this Sony Holland 55.

    Alice Audrey -
Sony does sing a lot of music besides jazz...her rendition of "Crazy" is terrific!

    secret agent woman -
Sadly, so many of our great jazz venues in San Francisco have closed.

    Jannie Funster -
I am so delighted you enjoyed my post about the Hollands. I've known them five years now and they just keep getting better and better. They are dear friends.

    steviewren -
There are still quite a few nice small venue in the San Francisco area where you can hear live music. I'm just sad Sony and Jerry moved to L. A. They moved a year ago and I really miss seeing them every week.

    kavisionz -
I'm so glad you enjoyed the Holland's music. If you're in the L. A. area, you could see them live as well.

Bhavesh Chhatbar - I was, indeed, so happy all weekend. Two nights of great music, good food, and the whole cafe of good friends that I've met over the past five years at Sony and Jerry's gigs, all add up for plenty to smile about.

    fullet -
I had so much fun with Jo Olivieri. We laughed so much, my sides hurt.

    Maggie May -
It was a lovely music....I hadn't seen my friend, Sony, since a small group of us went down to L. A. to see her perform at a jazz club there in the spring. This was so much nicer, at one of our old spots, with all her San Francisco fan and TWO nights. Her voice is fabulous and she sounds really good with just
her husband accompanying her on the guitar.
It certainly saves on having to pay other musicians!!
