Growing Older

This is lovingly dedicated to all of my dear friends who are entering the "older generation" and who can relate to this poem!

Growing Older

I gaze at my bathroom mirror,
And looking back at me,
Are the telltale signs of wrinkles,
And gray hair, their company.

My knees ache when it’s rainy,
And I toss and turn at night,
And clothes that used to fit me,
Have become a little tight!

I may be a bit forgetful,
That’s what my children say,
But I don’t think it’s quite as bad,
As the stories they portray!

I can’t really howl in laughter,
Or my Depends will overflow,
Heck, that can even happen,
When I give my nose a blow!

I used to dance the night away,
But I can’t do that at all,
I’m lucky to manage one pirouette,
Without leaning on a wall.

I sag a bit and need a lift,
But I can’t afford those fees,
Plastic surgeons are overpriced,
Their ads are such a tease!

I’ll just fade into the sunset,
With my other older friends,
We’ll laugh and toast each other,
Until our lifelong journey ends.

    I love this verse, Carmen:

"I’ll just fade into the sunset,
    With my other older friends,
We’ll laugh and toast each other,
    Until our lifelong journey ends"

At least we will have each other to laugh at the end..

Absolutely hilarious! You are too much. Maybe they'll have a depends dispenser at the Radisson :D

  6. How true and you expressed how all us older ladies feel.....but you know I don't mind growing older as long as I can take care of myself and have the love of family and friends. I absolutely love this poem Carmen, so wish I had your talent......:-) Hugs

  12. rainfield 61 - if I WOULD hike, I'd probably last a lot longer. I've got a treadmill right here in my bedroom and I need to get on that, for sure!

  19. I'm not part of that generation....but that was truly beautiful.

At first, it was funny and made me laugh...but then it got deeper and more than funny...touching....it was like watching one of those comedy movies that make you cry at parts.... :)

  22. As long as you feel youthful and beautiful who needs all those surgeries and treatments?

  23. I loved the poem so very much. I guess I don't mind getting older at all. I've let my hair turn gray and I don't mind the wrinkles. It speaks of life well lived and rich with experience.

  24. Hello Carmen
Would you be talking from experience then??
Can relate to most of your lovely words but look I love the 'natures highlights' in my hair and as for the 'laughter lines. on the face they remind ome of all the sunny days I've enjoyed and all the fun I've had.
    Take care
    Cathy

Kat_RN - glad I could make you smile...I hear smile wrinkles aren't so bad!

C - good that you got a laugh from my poem on aging, even if you are a youngster..but, one of these days, you'll get there!

Renee - Cheers to you, dear friend, I hope that poem made you laugh!

Donna - I know what you mean..every day I get out of bed is a good one!

Ayie - I'd rather spend what little money remains on travel, not fattening a plastic surgeon's wallet!

Mountain Woman - if your blog is any indication, you have a wonderful life. I don't imagine you envy anyone!

Cathy - you sound like such a positive person and that keeps you young, anyway!

magiceye - so glad you like this humor on aging...better to laugh than to cry, right?
