Alphabe Thursday - "G" Is For Gasoline - June 3, 2011

"G" is for gas,
That pure liquid gold,
It's a mighty commodity,
That's bought and sold.

Governments quiver,
And live in great fear,
An error in diplomacy,
And gas won't get here.

The prices are soaring,
As I stop at the pump,
The numbers I see,
Make my blood pressure jump.

When Valentine's comes,
On roses I'll pass,
Just show me your love,
With a full tank of gas!

  2. My sentiments exactly! We have two gas guzzlers and no funds to replace them. Thank you for putting the feelings of so many of us into such wonderful poetry.

  3. It sure is like gold compared to what many of us can remember from when we were kids.

  4. I love your poem! I've definitely been cringing every time I fill up - It's awful!

Thanks for stopping by and for empathizing with me about my kidney stones!

  5. Cute Poem! That reminds me, I'd better start soothing myself because my gas tank is almost empty!

  12. Another great poem. Just thinking of having to pay for gas gives me anxiety.

This verse came to me as I was buying gas yesterday. While it seems the prices have come down a few cents, it still kills me to pay over $50 to get my tank 3/4 full! I rarely fill it all the way anymore.

I have a Dodge Grand Caravan - don't really need a van but, 25 years ago, I had pretty extensive back surgery and the seats are really the most comfortable for me and are easier for me to get in and out of! As I get older, my aches and pains seem to grow even worse. I don't do all that much driving since I lost my job in budget cuts three years ago. I would love to travel to see friends in California but I am on such a strict budget with retirement!

At least, in my area, I've seen the prices drop about 10 cents/gallon. I wish we'd see $3 prices again. Gas and postage stamps...huge differences!

Our Village is a Little Different -
My brother has had kidney stones most of his life
( ours are different types of stones ). He's had successful lithotripsy on several occasions. I thought labor was much easier than dealing with those.

While my little ditties won't be remembered by future generations, I have fun writing them.

    Enchanted Oak -
I was so lucky to get that shot of the Matilija poppy with the bee. I'd been shooting for about 30 minutes at all sorts of flying critters and was pleasantly surprised when I got home and downloaded that picture.

No romantic sonnets from me, just goofy poetry, I guess. That' about all the creativity my old brain can muster.

    Judie -
So far, at least, we haven't had to ration gas or get in lengthy lines ( fingers crossed! ).

Tanya @ Greetings From the Asylum -
I never used to let my car get so low on gas but now it's nearly empty before I fill up. Not a smart thing to do!

Hope things are good on your side of the country, in all the wild weather we've been having. It must be getting really hot, that's for sure!

    Indrani -
It's always nice to see you visit. Glad you liked my comic verse!

    Amanda -
With all the cars on California freeways, you'd almost think gas was a bargain! My son, who lives in SF, takes the train to Sunnyvale to work. His "grannymobile" finally bit the dust and wouldn't pass the smog check so he took the $1000 the Feds gave him and isn't going to buy one for awhile.

    Icy BC -
You're there in Motor City, you'd think they'd give you a break! I wish I had one of those tiny cars but I'd have such a hard time getting in and out!

  15. Liquid gold, for SURE, Carmen.

So grateful my daughter's school ended yesterday, I was pretty-much in the car 2 hours a day Monday to Friday. And in the fall she'll be taking the school bus for the first time ever in her schooling career. yay!!!!!!!

now we'll have money for FOOD!!

  16. my sentiments exactly...every time we fill up. We try not to drive much, but sometimes it is inevitable. Gotta work, gotta get the kids to school, gotta buy food...etc. We have two places that are sometimes less than $4 and try to always fill up there when we're in the neighborhood. Yikes.

  17. Carmen, I love the last line in this great little poem!

You are so good at capturing contemporary problems and making them (almost) laughable!

Thank for sharing your grand talents with us this week.

    A+
