Ruby Tuesday - Helicopter Medevac- June 6, 2011

Several years ago, after a forensic conference in San Francisco, some of my best
nursing buddies, a couple of the husbands, and I went to Calistoga for a few nights.
It was so much fun, visiting wineries, eating out at great restaurants, and hanging
out at a rustic hotel, with a hot spring pool.  One day, as we were heading to Napa
for lunch, we were the first responders when a horrible incident happened.  A
young man, intent on suicide, threw himself in the path of an oncoming recreational
vehicle, driven by a lovely, recently retired couple from the Midwest.  They were
devasted by this unexpected event.

We all stopped and administered aid and called 911, remaining with the man until
the fire department and paramedics arrived ( among us, we were two nurse
practitioners, five RNs, assorted other specialists ).  We stayed on the scene till the
man was medevac-ed to the nearest trauma center.

I am participating in Ruby Tuesday - check out the site and join in the fun!

  1. Fortunately, we live in a country where emergency aid usually comes fairly quickly!

    COLOR DILEMMA

Yellow or red—which shall it be?
Red for you and yellow for me?

Perhaps you’d rather have yellow instead—
Which leaves me, of course, with handfuls of red!

Whichever hue you decide to choose,
I’ll take the other—no one will lose!

  4. It is a sad story.

    Which happens everyday.

    Because people are forgetful.

They think of themselves, forget about their love one.

  5. I would say how fortunate of these people to have you guys there. First aid is very important. If I see helicopter hovering above us..I would think there might be an accident, a car chase down somewhere or they are looking for something illegal activities going on down somewhere lol!! Happy Tuesday!

I hope that that person has realized how good it is to live for another day.
