Alphabe Thursday - "Z" Is For Zebra - April 7, 2011

"Z" Is For Zebra,
The most stylish of creatures,
Each one unique,
With their black and white features.

They look like a horse,
Or maybe an ass,
And just like those two,
They nibble on grass.

Their herds have been hunted,
By man, with his greed,
For skins and for meat,
When there was no need.

Unpredictable in nature,
They often are bred,
With mules and with horses,
To make them gentler, instead.

The stripes make me feel dizzy,
When I look at them here,
The patterns seem different,
On the face and the rear!

Zebra stripes are contagious,
They are now all the rage,
In fashion and in furnishings,
They now set the stage.

I can't get to Africa,
But when I'm at the zoo,
Spending time with the zebras,
Is a fun thing to do.

  3. I've always liked zebras. I believe that their stripes are similar to fingerprints....... no two being the same pattern.
I don't like the idea of using their skins though.

  16. I bet zebras would like your poem, too. Have you ever seen the animated movie, Madagascar, starring a lion, zebra, hippotomus, and one other animal? Your poem reminds me that I want to see the movie again. :-)
