The Eve Before Battle
He looked out at his armies,
Vast and mighty they,
Poised again for battle,
At the light of day.
The moon lit up the valley,
That soon would be blood red,
With thousands of young warriors,
No life for them ahead.
His beautiful black stallion,
Was restless in the night,
Perhaps the steed could sense,
This would be the final fight.
He prayed for God to guide him,
With his family shield held high,
Using swords of his forefathers,
He would give the battle cry!

I am participating in Tess Kinkaid's Magpie Tales - check out the site and join in the fun!
Hello dear Carmen.
ReplyDeleteThis poem gives my heart a little pinch. It's just four paragraph long but every word creates a story in my imagination. My imagination is giving me a pretty ending though... that these warriors will give a great fight and will always be remembered.
Have a nice day :)
I enjoyed this response to the photo - stirring stuff, but realistic: 'no life for them ahead'
ReplyDeleteI can see that restless stallion.
ReplyDeleteNo life for them ahead. Stark reality of what really happens, very nice.

ReplyDeleteI thought this was a difficult prompt for which to conceive a poem - glad you liked it!

I am very pleased you liked this very different poem from me. It's interesting writing something with Tess Kinkaid's Magpie prompts. Some come very easily and some, like this one, really are difficult for me.

I had the hardest time with this poem so I am really pleased that folks liked it.

Still haven't tried the cookies - maybe this weekend. Jeremy is in a posh apartment building called the Edgewater, over by the Giants stadium. His unit is two bedrooms, two baths and normally rents for $3300/mo. They got it for $1000 less - connections!
Tess Kinkaid -
This poem didn't come very easily to me. Somehow, writing about battle and swords isn't my forte.

Yes, the realities of war are pretty horrible. I wish we never had them!

I cherish a compliment, coming from you, someone who is such an excellent writer!
~✿~Icy BC -
Writing about love or flowers or the sea is a much easier task than trying to come up with verse about battle!

I enjoy Magpie Tales so much. I don't participate all the time because my brain isn't also functional!
Carrie Burtt -
I am so pleased that you liked my Magpie! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I hope to see you again.

I could see a lavish multimillion dollar major studio production with some superstar playing the hero, leading his men into battle!

I do have fun with the poems...though this one was a bit difficult to write!
Now I want to know the battlecry, too? Not "Geronimo!" I hope? LOL
