Camera Critters #153 - Birds at the Beach - March 12, 2011

I've never been very good at photographing birds in flight.  I was at Ocean  Beach
a few days ago on a very windy day and I stood there, for the longest time, trying my
best to get a few good pictures.  The only really decent one was of the crow, or black
bird ( not sure which he was ) who landed briefly on the lamp post.  The wind was
gusting so much, he had trouble staying on his perch.  Those birds in the air would
be caught by the wind and reminded me of small planes doing acrobatic maneuvers.

I am participating in Camera Critters  - check out the site and join in the fun!

  5. These are great shots, Carmen! No matter how often I try to catch birds in flight, it frustrates me that I can't do better...LOL! I think we're all too hard on ourselves. Looks like you had a fun day...:)

I didn't think these bird shots were my best but I'm glad you liked them.

The crow wasn't difficult to photograph, perched as he was on the light but, oh, those other birds, soaring in the breeze, just didn't make it easy!!

The news from Japan continues to be most disheartening. I feel so terribly sad for your country and hold all of you in my heart.

My bird shots just do not compare with some of your fabulous photographs. I think I should probably stick to creatures on land.

I got a stiff neck, looking at the skies, and I just wasn't fast enough to catch those birds!

Sometimes, people get such incredible close up shots of birds in flight. I've seen amazing ones of eagles..and I cannot even catch a seagull, with hunreds of them flying around me!

    Gary -
We have so many seagulls around here, it's nice to see the contrast with the black crows.

I can never get a close up of the birds in flight...only when one sits still for me!
