Ruby Tuesday - Our Lady, Refuge of Sinners - August 16, 2011

This is another submission from my wonderful visit to the De Young Museum
in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.  It is sad that the artist is unknown!

I am participating in Ruby Tuesday -
check out the site and add your post to join in the fun!

To all my friends from India, I hope your Independence celebration
yesterday was one of great joy and pride.  You have so much
to celebrate in that spectacular country of yours and, everyday,
should really be one of celebration.

  2. On the other hand, maybe the artist, out of humility and faith, did not want to be known...

    ENAMORED OF RED

    Enamored of red
    I lie in my bed,
    Dreaming of cherry-filled crèmes;

    For red is the shade,
    The prettiest made,
That gives me the sweetest of dreams.

  4. Art from that period always seems a little odd to me, but it's beautiful in its genre.

Of all the pieces on display in this room, I was especially drawn to this one. I thought she was so lovely. I've always like Madonnas.

    Magical Mystical Teacher -
What a beautiful thought you proposed. The artist may simply have painted this out of love. It truly does reflect a sense of adoration and worship!

I was baptized Catholic but I don't embrace that religion...I am more for respecting all faiths and treating people with kindness. Nonetheless, I think people of all faiths could appreciate this lovely painting.

I have always liked paintings of Mother and Child but some of them are rather dark and gloomy. This appealed to me because of its brightness.

I think I have to agree with you. It ranks number one of all the Madonnas I've seen - even in Rome and the Vatican!
