To My Father - June 16, 2013

I've never been a father,
But I've felt a father's touch,
And know that special feeling,
That has always meant so much.

I've seen the smile that starts,
Deep within his eyes,
And lights up all his face,
So knowing and so wise.

I've seen him filled with worry,
When I have caused him pain,
And I swear that I will never,
Be the source of hurt again.

I watched him work so hard,
Putting his needs last,
Trying to provide for us,
Anything we asked.

He always was forgiving,
When I put him to the test,
In this world of fathers,
Mine, by far, is just the best.

His scowl could be erased,
With a hug and kiss from me,
When he'd return, at night, from work,
At tired as could be.

He never was too busy,
To listen to my woes,
From my early childhood days,
To the problems with my beaus.

I often take for granted,
He knows how much I care,
But, just in case, I'll say, Dad,
You're the best one anywhere.
