Mellow Yellow Monday - New Orleans Drive In Daiquari Bar - October 25, 2010

Mellow Yellow Monday - New Orleans Drive In Daiquari Bar - October 25, 2010

When I arrived in New Orleans forty-eight years ago to start nursing school at Charity
Hospital, the legal drinking age was  eighteen.  We, however, did not have any
drive through daiquairi bars.  They still did not exist when I moved away in 1969.  At
some point in time, in recent years, I noticed several when I visited.  I'm not sure they
are such a good idea, though, since they don't seem to discourage drinking and
driving.

When I was there last week for my nursing school reunion and my friend was driving,
we stopped so I could get my first ever "drive through daiquiri" and some photographs.
I can't say the quality of the drink was superior.  Give me a Sazerac at one of the great
bars in New Orleans...none of this drive through stuff for me!!

You can't miss this sign!

It beats drive by banking, I guess!

$5.00 off gallons on Sundays!!

I'm participating in Mellow Yellow Monday.
Check out the other yellow posts.

  3. Oh, I can barely believe it, Carmen. You can buy a gallon of booze ($5 off on Sundays) and keep on driving. Counterintuitive, to say the very least.

  4. Now if I could only find a drive through mojito bar, I'd buy a car :D

It's your long time buddy Bessye...I love your new blog set up. I'm with you about the drinking and drivin thing...:) immediate reaction is cool, but then reality sinks in...not so cool. I had trouble for a long time with your old site everytime I tried to log on, this is so much better connection. I'll be back! Come by Visions when you get a chance.

Back home in Germany young people are allowed to drink wine and beer from sixteen years of age; yet both over here and their they do start at a much younger age, which makes me always wonder how they are able to obtain alcohol.

    Please have a good Tuesday.

  9. I have never heard of this before! Surely this encourages young people to drink and drive! Great photos! But I sure hope this does not creep into Australia!

  10. Can't say that this is a lifestyle I'd be too comfortable with!

  11. Well doesn't that just throw the wholes "no opened alcohol in a moving vehicle" right out the window. Sheesh. But I have to admit it's a little funny. I can only imagine their tv commercials....

  13. Carmen,
I wanted to stop by and say hello - my appearance on here has been sporadic to say the least, but I wanted to thank you for always taking the time to read my posts and share your kind words! :)

Hopefully I'll get back in the swing of things soon.

...& as for drive-thru daiquari's, I've never heard of such a thing! I have to agree though... can't say it helps drinking and driving all that much!

It makes me happy when you visit. You've become a friend!

Where but New Orleans would they facilitate drinking and driving???

    Kay L.Davies -
I'm hoping that gallon of booze goes home for an afternoon of football and not to be consumed by the driver of a car!!!

    Poetic Shutterbug -
I never knew you liked mojitos!

    Thom -
I like all those nice Hawaii drinks - like mai tais, scorpions, etc.

    Rajesh -
New Orleans is quite an place of contrasts - beautiful antebellum homes, drive through daiquiri bars!

How wonderful to see you! It's been awhile. Sorry about the problems getting my page to load. Not sure why - hope this one continues to be less problematic. I love the color of this page, too - it's almost the same as what I chose for my poetry book! Hope you're doing well...and I hope you'll stop by again!

I know, in European families, I've seen children - well, teens, anyway, having wine at dinner with their families. Here in the U. S., alcohol use is pretty serious, even among preteens.

    Greyscale Territory -
I have to agree with you. These diaquiri bars cannot be good. It seems to me the possibility of abuse is too great.

    Sharkbytes (TM) -
I imagine parents would be really protesting a neighborhood daiquiri bar.

Loved the pictures of the temples you visited on your vacation. Thanks for the visit here.

    Geeta -
What a lovely surprise to see you here. Just seeing you name brings back nice thoughts of India. I'd expected to go in Dec for 6 months, using mileage, but they couldn't get me a FF ticket back so I'll have to delay my trip again.
