Poor Purple Pansy - Flash 55 Friday, 5-28-10

Once a pretty purple pansy,
Now you look forlorn,
Some creepy crawly critters,
Have made your petals shorn.

You’ve delighted many,
With your smiling pretty face,
But you and all your neighbors,
Are feeling much disgrace.

You sadly wilt before us,
I wish you peaceful rest,
So mercilessly the slaughter,
Victory for the garden pest.

  1. The garden pest, to the flower, is somewhat akin to a cancer in the human...Hey thanks for a lovely, colorful (LOVE those blues and yellows and purples. I'm sure there are better names for the colors!) flowers.

    Here is MINE

  7. steveroni - it's amazing,to me, how rapidly these worms, or whatever, can decimate the flowers...I'm glad they weren't mine...and, yes, I love the colors ( what's left ) of these pansies!

  8. Brian Miller - I enjoyed your 55, as always. It's always a challenge to write something in 55 words! I hadn't thought, before, of adding photos.

  9. Ann - I've heard that ladybugs are great for aphids. These flowers weren't mine but in front of an apartment building near me. I'm surprised their gardener doesn't care for the flowers better.

  10. Kay - I am so happy to have you following my blog. It is sad that these pansies are so mutilated. Voracious critters but I didn't see any present. Must be nocturnal.

  12. Alice Audrey - I'm not that up to date on garden pests but I know some bore holds - I saw a caterpillar on poppies and they seemed to cut across the petals. This looks the same way. They sure eat a lot!
