45 Days Left in India!
Gattina chose "vehicles" as her Saturday Photo Hunting topic for today.
India has all sorts of "interesting" vehicles, some of the four legged
variety so I have, also, enclosed photos of those.
Gattina chose "vehicles" as her Saturday Photo Hunting topic for today.
India has all sorts of "interesting" vehicles, some of the four legged
variety so I have, also, enclosed photos of those.
In Jaipur, tourists enjoy riding camels and elephants, although both
creatures are also work animals, pulling carts, and heavy loads, in addition
to giving visitors an "Indian" experience at transportation.
Of course, auto rickshaws are everywhere, weaving in and out of traffic and
sounding their horns.
These are the Mumbai variety. Those in Jaipur are often larger and more
colorful.
The main vehicle for transportation is the motorcycle. Jaipur, at least, has a
helmet law which seems to be followed much better than in Mumbai. Often,
however, second passengers and children are not helmeted. There are quite a
few cars on the road as well but you don't often see vans or large SUVs such
as we have in the U. S.
Some people still get around via bicycle rickshaws, quite a lot of work,
especially if the poor fellows are transporting someone my size.
I always get a kick out of seeing these little trucks on the road. Of course,
there are regular semis transporting goods from one part of India to another,
some of them very colorful.
It is amazing that the ladies of India can ride pinion ( side saddle ), in their
long, flowing colorful saris, especially since many of the roads are in disrepair
and potholes are plentiful.
India's trains are often filled to overflowing with passengers bulging out the
doors. While, of course, there are luxury trains like the Orient Express but
those that transport regular passengers are far from deluxe.
India's vehicles and modes of transportation are as diverse as the country
itself. With over 1.2 billion people, you can imagine the traffic jams in major
cities!
I am participating in Gattina's
Join us!!
All types of vehicle jam in front of a traffic light or a junction.
ReplyDeleteThey horn here and there.
I wonder how the camel does it...
At least you don't run into much traffic at Ceruk Token!!!! xxoo
DeleteWhat a colorful collection for the theme! enjoy the rest of your stay. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI wish my budget, as a retired nurse, allowed me to cover more of India. I have a whole bucket list but I will never see it all!!!!
DeleteIt would be fun to ride a camel or an elephant. We have rickshaws on the busy roads of Singapore too. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been on an elephant twice ( poor elephant ) but I resisted climbing aboard a camel when I had the opportunity to do so in Patiala, India.
DeleteGreat take on the theme. I'm glad you including the animals as well as other vehicles.
ReplyDeleteAs many air miles as I have logged over my lifetime, I should have remembered an airplane!!!!
DeleteI love camels as "vehicles" I rode already several times on one in Egypt and Morocco, would love to ride on an elephant ! Maybe one day !
ReplyDeleteI've done very brief elephant rides though, when I lived in Jaipur, I could have gone on one all the way to the Amber Fort!! I opted for a taxi, however.
DeleteHi RNSANE, what an awesome photo collection for this week's theme. Such a cool variety. I always find it interesting to see the variety of transports in the places I visit.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the next 45 days you have in India.
At 69, I am wondering if I will get to use my ten year visa to its limit. I have really enjoy living almost fifteen months of the last two years in India.
DeleteWhat you call "auto-rickshaws" look like Thai tuk-tuks and what you call "rickshaws" are called trishaws in Penang. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I've ridden the Thai "tuk-tuks" where I thought traffic was atrocious....until I lived in India!!!!
DeleteSome of us pulled a rickshaws around we might be in better shape including my self. I recall reading "Good Earth" and the rickshaws.
ReplyDeleteMy photo is up and Coffee is on
I loved Pearl Buck and must have read all of her books. You are right...I don't think I've ever seen a chubby rickshaw wallah!!!
DeleteCalling by from Saturday's Photo Hunting Meme, what a wonderful selection of vehicles for the meme. Now following you so I can read more of your India adventures.
ReplyDeleteI call India "the country of my heart" though, of course, I will always rank the U. S., my homeland as number one. I have loved living here so many months over the past two years. It is such a country of contrasts.
DeleteI've ridden an elephant but not a camel. Looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteI, too, have been on a couple of brief elephant rides. I almost rode on a two humped camel in Chandigarh, India last year but then felt sorry for the camel.
DeleteFabulous photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this look at India's very unique vehicles. I hope your stay there is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWow! So many different ways to get around! Great photos and thank you for your comments on my photo hunt :)
