Our World Tuesday: Week 98 - Rain, Rain, Rain - July 9, 2013

Mumbai rains continue.  We have an occasional day with only a sprinkle but
some days, there are deluges.  I stay pretty close to home, venturing only to
local restaurants and avoiding rickshaw rides into the flooded streets and
chaotic traffic.  I love hearing the rains at night, though.

Of course, some folks have to get out and go to work or head to the street
vendors for groceries.  I don't envy them at all.  I will be glad when monsoon
season ends!

    1. I'm in India for six months...I was here during monsoon season last year but they were 70% deficient in rainfall. I think they are making up for it this year. We have our winter rainfall in San Francisco but it is nothing like these nonstop torrential sheets of rain.

    1. Since rain is so badly needed for agriculture, Indians welcome the rain but it does tend to make life difficult at times. The horrible floods and landslides in the north have been so awful, with the loss of so many lives.

  9. That is a lot of rain! I stay inside too if I don't really need to go anywhere. Like you, I like the sound of rain at night.

    1. One tends to get drenched in these little auto rickshaws...though some have flaps that fold down, offering some protection when you have to go out. Sometimes the streets are so flooded, though, water seeps over the floor boards!

  10. That really does look like a lot of rain water in your pictures. I've never experienced anything like a monsoon season.

    1. Monsoon lasts so long...two months is too much for me...but I guess it's not as bad as being snowed in for a long period, Ratty.

    1. It is a blessing when these days of rain have a day of sunshine to let the streets dry out a bit.

    1. Monsoon season lasts a couple of months, I believe. I was in India last year at this time but they were deficient about 70% - India can't survive without their rains. I think this year, though, they are making up for that.
