Mellow Yellow Monday #189 - Yellow Flowers in Jaipur Monsoons

We are finally having monsoon rainfall in Jaipur - sometimes, the drops hit the
ground with such a vengeance, it's a wonder anything is left standing.

These pretty little yellow flowers ( don't know their name ), in front of my room,
have survived quite well

Ruby 2 - Red and Black Flowers - June 5, 2012

From San Francisco's wonderful Botanical Garden which was introduced to my by
a dear friend, fellow blogger, Poetic Shutterbug.  To see some incredible flower
photography, you MUST visit her blog!  She is the queen of macro shots and
the Garden is her world.  She is even a squirrel whisperer and has charmed the
bees and other critters in that habitat.

Mellow Yellow Monday #174 - Yellow and Purple Beauty - May 21, 2012

I have always loved the combination of yellow and purple - my favorite floral bouquets
are yellow roses and purple irises and, though, I have hinted VERY often, they don't
seem to come my way on a frequent basis.  I guess, partly because, folks also know
that I enjoy a bottle of good wine.  Now, the ultimate gift to me would be a nice wine
AND a bouquet of yellow roses and purple irises.

My lovely daughter-in-law had arranged this simple, but beautiful, bouquet in her home
when I visited last weekend for Mother's Day.  I delighted in it the whole three days I
was there.

Macro Flowers Saturday - Red Roses - October 29, 2011

Now that autumn is definitely here, with the leaves displaying their brilliant

colors and temperatures plummeting downward, florist bouquets and

photographs are the only way we'll be seeing many of our favorite flowers for

a few months!

Of course, we could always board an airplane and head to tropical climes for
a floral fix - or we can enjoy Macro Flowers Saturday from the comfort of home!

plants from the sunflower family.  It is the fifth most popular cut flower in the

world and comes in many colors which, besides being attractive to humans,

This is another beautiful flower from the San Francisco Botanical Garden, a

treasure trove of  plants and flowers from all parts of the world.  The proteus

is native to South Africa.  The king proteus is their national flower.

Ruby Tuesday - Butchart Gardens Red Tulips - July 19, 2011

Butchart Gardens, on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia is one
of the most splendid gardens I've encountered in my world travels. 
No matter what time of year you visit, it is beautiful.  I love it most
in spring when the tulips are in bloom - vast displays in riotous
color - and in summer when the roses are at their peak.

Mellow Yellow Monday # 129 - Pretty Flowers & Sign - July 11, 2011

A few weeks ago, while I was attending the concert of my friends, Sony and Jerry 

Holland, at the Marin Art and Garden Center,  I also enjoyed the Marin Farmers 

Market with its array of fresh vegetables, lovely flowers and wonderful food vendors!

Tomorrow, my friend, Meaux, and I are are off to West Sacramento for three days with 

my middle son, Alex, and his wife, Laura - for more fun.  It's been so lovely having her 

here with me.  The days are flying by too fast.

Macro Flowers Saturday - Pink Daisy - July 9, 2011

My friend, Meaux, and I are staying busy.  Today is a lazy day, just

staying at home, catching up on movies!  I'm cooking tonight, have a

yummy menu planned, sans dessert - our concession to dieting!

Macro Flowers Saturday - The Matilija Poppy - July 2, 2011

I first met this incredible flower, the largest variety of poppy, from the family
Papaveraceae, just last year ( I am sixty-six ), much to my dismay.  The only two
species in the genus Romneya are perennial shrubs, native to northern Mexico and
California.  It is reputed to be difficult to grow but, once they establish themselves,
they are hard to remove.  I don't see why anyone would want to rid themselves of these
lovely beauties, which have been nicknamed the "fried egg flower"!

According to Wikipedia, Matilijas prefer warm sunny soil with good drainage.  Another
interesting tidbit is that, in the wild, they are often called "fire followers" as they often can
be found in burned areas.  What a beautiful blossom to give hope after devastation!

The San Francisco Botanical Garden has a wonderful section with these beautiful
flowers as does the Marin Art and Garden Center.
