Mellow Yellow Monday #163 - Beautiful Yellow Flowering Tree - March 5, 2012

I am still in Bangalore, Karnataka, India - my fifth day with a dear blogging
friend and his family who have made my stay in India's "Silicon Valley" such a
wonderful experience.  I have been delighted with the beautiful flowers in this
garden city of India, especially with one spectacular yellow flowering tree.
I still do not know its name - my slow internet has not allowed me to easily
access the excellent "Flowers of India" website so, perhaps, one of my
followers might be able to tell me what this tree is.

It is blooming in great profusion right now and I love the brilliant yellow
flowers.  These pictures were taken on the grounds of St. Philomena's
Church in Mysore.

  1. Hi Carmen! Beautiful photos! The tree is called an Angel's Trumpet, I think. There was a small tree with similar white flowers arching over the gate of my old studio in San Francisco. The flowers were so fragrant. I loved walking under that tree to get to the gate. So happy you are having such a wonderful time in India. Kris.

    1. Thanks for visiting...your roses are lovely. They remind me of "Peace" though I am sure there are many other varieties that are similiar.

  16. Hi Carmen! I'm an Anglo-Indian, born, bred and buttered in India. Like you, I'm also semi-retired. I've earned a livelihood writing advertising copy, but over the past couple of years I've focused on fiction and poetry. Just to say congrats for the great pics. The tree with the brilliant yellow flowers is called gulmohur in the local dialect, though its scientific name is Indian Laburnum. My blog is adscapes.blogspot.in. My website: www.pierrefrancis.com. Drop in sometime - and have a great life.

    1. How delightful, Pierre Francis, to have you drop by my blog and this long ago post!!! I am now back in India for my fourth lengthy visit, finishing up the last month of a four month stay, here in Mumbai. Thanks for the info on the lovely flower. I'll have to check it out on the internet and I will definitely look at your web site. Check out my latest post - poetry, this time.

    2. Hi Carmen! I wandered into your blog because I was looking for references to the gulmohur (I wasn't too sure of the name). I live in Mumbai (Colaba). I will bookmark your blog and check regularly. I write poetry too, and will certainly look at your stuff. Bye and take care - and have a great holiday. When you next come to India, please visit Mount Abu. It's an overnight train journey from Mumbai and sits at the Gujarat-Rajasthan border. I did my schooling at Abu (St Mary's, run way back in the '60s and '70s by the Irish Christian Brothers, but now run by lay teachers - though still owned by the CBs.) Mount Abu is known for its famous Dilwara Temples, which have been carved from a single mammoth piece of marble. There are other attractions, of course. Mt Abu is one of the most naturally beautiful hillstations in the country.
