In India - Thoughts As 2012 Begins - December 31, 2011

I find myself so far from home,
As I wait for New Year's day,
Yet the magic of technology,
Makes no place far away.

I'll raise my glass at midnight,
And toast to all I see,
For here in crowded India,
I've fulfilled my destiny.

Last New Year's eve I told myself,
I'd made a dream come true,
To return to far off India,
To see beloved cruise ship crew.

People thought me crazy,
It's not for one your age,
That trip is for a youngster,
You're way beyond that stage.

I felt just more determined,
Though I suffered from self doubt,
Each time there was an obstacle,
I, somehow, worked it out.

With the blessing of my sons,
I boarded that long flight,
And the rest, of course, is history,
As I celebrate tonight.

I embrace the New Year,
From this land so dear to me,
And pray it showers blessings,
To every land and sea.

I always pray for peace,
To reign upon the earth,
To follow every little child,
From the moment of their birth.

From this land of many gods,
I wish for all mankind,
Prosperity in the coming year,
May happiness you find.

  10. What a great testimony to the power of a human being in pursuit of her goal. Self-doubt can be a mind killer, but you prove it can also be a bridge to fulfillment. Awesome!

I'm not around the blogs as much as I'd like to be but there'll be time for that once I've left this fabulous country and returned to San Francisco.

    Robert Geiss -
I am happy to have another year of visiting Athens through your photography and having you as a friend.

Now, you've returned from another fun trip and have added a beautiful city to your treasure trove of travels....get to work on my city by the bay with it's hills that climb halfway to the stars!!

I figured that, at 67, my time on the planet was limited and that, if I wanted to see my dear Indian friends again, I'd better make it happen!

    Beth -
If my darn arthitis...both knees and shoulders...didn't plague me so much, I think I could more easily forget I'm 67! But, being in India, somehow, restores my youth and enthusiasm for life.

I always knew India was magical...and my ten day stay here 14 years ago wasn't nearly enough. I think a 4 month stay will be too short, as well. I am now trying to figure out how I can return.

I am so glad I didn't listen to all the naysayers who tried to convince me not to make this trip. I'm sure things could go wrong but, hey, I could be right in San Francisco and have them go wrong, too.

    Glynis -
I am so happy to he here at the start of a New Year...I think this could become a habit.

    Maggie May -
India is a very special place and I am soaking up all it has to offer!

There were a few times there that I didn't think this trip was going to happen but I knew it was now or never and, after making the rounds of all my docs, and getting an all clear and a welcome from my dear friends, the Santos' family, who told me I was welcome to move in with them for as long as I wanted - all I had to do was get rid of belongs, downsize, put things in storage, and the rest, as they say, is history

  16. Happy New Year, dear Carmen. What a wonderful poem - you have such a great gift with words.

2012 started here in Tauranga, NZ, with very heavy rain. It had rained all day on New Year's Eve with a heavier shower every so often that was monsoon-like! Ah, that is what happen visit a town in summer that has a sub-tropical climate.

Hoping 2012 continues to be kind to you, Michelle xxx

Well, the New Year has gotten its feet wet and I hope your start was wonderful. I cannot believe how fast my India days are flying by. Only 84 days left!

    ruma -
I do hope I can win the lottery once I get home. I am loving this India trip and, unless I come into money, I'm afraid this will be my last real journey!!

So far, so good on this trip....knock on wood. I am feeling great, enjoying everything but the traffic and mosquitoes and trying to figure out how I can come back next year.
