Ruby Tuesday - Balinese Beauty - September 6, 2011

This week, I thought I'd use the close up shot I got of the exotic lady
who graces the cover of my poetry book, "Life's Journey".  Her bright
red lipstick should qualify her for Ruby Tuesday in which I am
participating.  Her dancing forever made an impression on  me, her grace
and beauty were beyond description.  I even wrote a poem about
her which I will share again here.

The Balinese Dancer

Exotic and alluring,
Each movement casts its spell,
Evoking myths and legends,
Such dramas she can tell.

Swaying to the melodies,
She drops down to the floor,
With so much grace and beauty,
It makes one’s spirits soar.

She twirls in a flash of color,
Midst temple rhythms old,
Wrapped in brightest brocades,
Flecked in sparkling gold.

Exquisite and dainty,
Her hands have much to say,
As she beckons to a lover,
Then bows her head to pray.

Her dances tell the stories,
Of Bali and its past,
Giving the world a picture,
Of a culture unsurpassed.

  1. She looks very mysterious. I have gotten to see that kind of dance a couple of times, and it's very interesting.

I was totally mesmerized the whole evening the troupe danced on the ship. They were so incredible. Only once since, at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, have I seen one other Balinese dancer, when my friend, Jo, aka Poeetic Shutterbug, saw a gentleman perfom.

This lady was so elegant in her attire and he ability to put her body into such contorted movement really was amazing.

I am so delighted you liked my poem. I know, when I am in India, I'll be able to write many more. I've already done one about the peacock and the Taj Mahal!

I used frequent flyer miles for my ticket. All it cost me was $179 for the taxes and other fees - normally a round trip ticket from San Francisco to Mumbai can be as much as $2000 for coach!

She was truly beautiful and the ultimate in grace and beauty. I guess that is why I've never forgotten her!!

  9. Carmen...I'm stopping in to say hello and to thank you for visiting my blog. Wow you have a lot of stories to tell and a lot of life experiences to share. I have really enjoyed looking at your blog and your photos and your story about your youngest son...Looks like you are enjoying retirement....keep the camera clicking....

My recent post is about ECT and you being a retired forensic nurse I would be interested in hearing your views on the subject.

Hope you are having a great day!

I'm so glad you liked my poem. It was easy to write after watching her dance.

This lovely lady's dance was poetry itself so I didn't have much difficulty writing about her. I wish I could have seen more performances.

    Ann -
Thank you for your kind words. As for talent, I wish I were more so!

    Smalltown RN -
Thanks for visiting. I will get back to your blog read your post about ECT. I worked in psych for many years and I never liked ECT. As a student nurse over 45 years ago, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, patients had ECT with NO sort of preop or anesthesia. It was horrible!

    Icy BC -
I didn't get to talk to this dancer. I wondered how heavy her headdress was but, she danced so beautifully, it couldn't have weighed that much. I would have loved to purchsas one of the neck pieces. Very lovely!

Hello, my friend in Saga. I hope you are busy photographing some new wonders to share with us.

    Indrani -
I'm glad you like my poem about this lovely dancer.

    Self Sagacity -
I don't imagine these dancers can continue into old age. Arthritic knees would make bending quite difficult!
