A Peacock in Jaipur - February 23, 2013

The peacock is the national bird of India.  At night, they nested in the trees
outside my Jaipur guest house, emitting their plaintive cries.  I seldom was
able to get a photograph of one - and never when one was dancing.  I
almost didn't see this one.  It was so well camouflaged by the trees.

I am participating in

this theme this week is green.

    1. I expected to see so many more colorful birds in India but, aside from the peacock and and Indian Golden oriole, I saw mostly crows.

    1. Having spent nine months of the past year and India, you'd think I would've gotten many more shots of peacocks.

    1. I can't tell you the number of hours each evening. I would spend trying to catch one of them as they would lie home to roost in the trees around my Jaipur guest house. It was usually too late to get a very good picture. They were such heavy birds, they would drag the branches down when they landed.

    1. Zoos are the only other places I've ever seen peacocks -
except the grounds of some of the Southern plantations.
