Camera Critters #182- Seagull Soiree - October 1, 2011

I've been to see all my physicians as I prepare for my six month sojourn
in India.  My arthritis in my left shoulder and left knee have gotten so bad
that I finally decided to have my wonderful ( and most handsome )
orthopedist, Dr. John Belzer, give me a steroid injection in both areas in
hopes of gaining some relief from the pain.  My right shoulder and right
knee bother me as well but not nearly as bad as the other side.

Neither injection was really uncomfortable and I am so happy to feel
some relief already.  Dr. Belzer cautioned me not to overdo use of either
joint, however, as the pathology is still there.

On the way home, I went down Great Highway and stopped for an hour
to look at the Pacific.  I have so much missed cruising since the loss of my
job nearly three years ago.  Thankfully, I've had the Pacific Ocean only
three miles from my home and a huge coastline for many miles in close
proximity.  Yesterday, there seemed to be a huge convention of seagulls!
As always, I had my camera with me and I got quite a few pictures, even
some of birds in flight which usually elude me.  I was helped by a good
headwind which kept them at practically a standstill in front of me!

I am participating in that fun Saturday meme,
check out the site and contribute to join in the fun!

  1. AWESOME, AWESOME shots Carmen. The birds in flight are stunning. And I see you reunited with Manfred and his family :) Did you see those little white birds that congregate out there too? I don't know what they are but there are hundreds of them and they are so cute. Fantastic shots.

  3. Fun shots. I love the ocean birds. We live about as close to the Atlantic as you live to the Pacific.

  5. Seagulls are so much fun to watch and photograph, as long as they aren't directly overhead. - Margy

  18. Poetic Shutterbug -
I think Manfred has been in reproductive phase! Or maybe a few dozen of his friends have been busy! I was just fortunate with the camera on this day as you know, usually, the birds are long gone, by the time I've snapped the shutter!

Betty Manousos@ Cut and Dry -
I must be totally honest and say, this is the luckiest I've ever been with getting birds in flight - I am more lucky at being the recipient of bird droppings!!!

    Tatjana Parkacheva -
I am glad you enjoyed the results of my stop at Ocean Beach and the seagull convention!

    Gemma Pages -
I appreciate the birthday wishes though I hate being at the end of my years....I think my years of great fun are on the downside as I celebrate birthday 67!!!

    Self Sagacity -
I can only acknowledge good luck in getting the airborne photos...I am certainly not talented in that area of photography.

    Cheryl-
Are the ocean birds the same on bot sides of the country? I dare say, seagulls exist everywhere!

    Rajesh -
I'm looking forward now to getting shots of Indian birds. Deepak has promised to take me to see flamingos in Mumbai!

    Powell River Books -
I daresay it isn't fun being under any birds!! Even small ones seem to make large deposits!

    Sheila @ A Postcard a Day -
Seagulls are definitely prolific and their antics can be quite amusing!

    Sharkbytes -
Seagulls definitely aren't an endangered species.

    chubskulit -
Glad you liked these wild seagulls. I had fun watching them.

    ladyfi -
I went a little overboard with those seagulls. I just couldn't stop shooting, they were such a delight!

    FishHawk -
I am delighted to be included in "A Sunday Drive" - am glad you enjoyed the pictures.

    Icy BC -
I felt like gulls were putting on a special performance just for me.

    SG -
I am out of the habit of travel in the nearly three years since my job ended - I used to think nothing of jetting half way around the world. I'll wear my support stockings and get up and walk frequently on the flight.

    Kat_RN -
My steroid injections have helped considerably! What a relief. I will travel much more comfortably now.

    manuela -
I just love the ocean. Am off now for a birthday lunch by the sea.

    Vicki Lane -
I do love that header photo...it is a beautiful spot only about five miles from my home.
