Another De Young Museum Offering - August 21, 2011 - Shadow Shot Sunday #170 & Mellow Yellow Monday #135

This rather stern looking gentleman could have been fitting for a number of
memes.  Unfortunately, I didn't get a photo of the placard so I don't know who
made him nor the composition material.

He was at the De Young Museum in San Francisco and I rather preferred him
to Picasso!

  1. Looks like paper-mache, doesn't it. I like it too.

  3. When enlarged he seems to have a rather stern look on his face. Great shot.

    I agree,Joan, that statue did look like he was made of paper-mache. He was quite impressive, tall and towering.

    I'll check out your Mellow Yellow. I have quite a collection for memes that I got during my museum visit!

    @SquirrelQueen -
    I thought the fellow looked so stern - like he was scolding a child for some infraction.

    @Eden -
    The De Young museum was a great source of photos for lots of memes in futres posts. I hit a gold mine!

  6. The severe expression is funny juxtaposed with the clown-like colors of his suit.

  7. My gosh, this guy looks downright dangerous!

    IF I HAD A SHADOW

    If I had a shadow as big as the sky,
    I never would fear, and I’ll tell you why:

    My shadow would save me from dragons and things
    That fly in the night with terrible wings;

    My shadow would keep me away from the beast
    That sniffs in the west and sniffs in the east,

    Hungry for children who play all alone,
    Hoping to feast upon blood, upon bone;

    My shadow would be my protector and knight
    To keep fear at bay, to banish all fright.

    I’m so glad my shadow is always nearby,
    Though it’s not nearly as big as the sky!

  13. I love the bee shot. It's so hard to get them in midair. As for the statue, I pity the person on the other side of that stance.

    He is an interesting work of art. From his height and the position of his head, he must be looking down at a little one!

    I found this fellow one of the most interesting pieces of art at the exhibit!

    My blog header shot was a matter of luck! There were lots of bees around the Matilija poppies that day and I just snapped away.
    You're right...I wouldn't want to be the recipient of that statue's stern glare!

    I definitely liked that part of the De Young better than the Picasso exhibit!!

    I don't think I would want that statue in my home. I prefer art of the impressionist type, you know Renoir, pretty flowers and gardens, not stern fellows like this guy.

    Definitely, he's not a guy I would want across the breakfast table from me!

    The artist certainly did a good job with the expression of his statue! He must have been familiar with that face!

    The De Young was great for nice exhibit photos with the plus of great shadow shots!

    I think that guy would scare children, that's for sure!!
